Matthew McConaughey recently shared that an intriguing dream about romance paved the way to meeting his wife, Camila Alves.
In his newsletter titled “Lyrics of Living,” the “Dallas Buyers Club” actor, who is now 56, recounted a reflective period in his mid-30s. He was searching for a lifelong partner, a confidant, and a future mother for his children, according to a report by Us Weekly.
“I was on the quest for something more, seeking ‘the one,'” McConaughey explained. “Then, I experienced an unexpected dream.”
During this vivid dream, McConaughey envisioned an older version of himself seated on a porch, surrounded by 22 women, numerous vehicles, and a bustling scene of 88 children.
In his dream, these children symbolized each year of his life, gathered to mark his 88th birthday. Interestingly, despite fathering these children, he hadn’t wed any of the 22 women present.
“Each woman was serene and satisfied,” he wrote, per the outlet. “Every child was smiling, laughing, and healthy. We all knew one another very well.”
“Each mother and I shared an idyllic memory, the children roosted upon my lap,” the “Interstellar” star wrote.
“We hugged, we kissed, we laughed and joked, we cried tears of happiness,” he continued.
“They all gathered around me on the porch for a family photograph, and we looked toward a large-format box camera on a tripod at the top of the driveway. Three! Two! One! Then I came.”
The Oscar winner said the “beautiful dream” reminded him that his goal in life was to become a father — but also helped him see he’d be fine without taking the plunge.
“The red light vision of being a lifelong bachelor had come to me in a greenlight wet dream,” he wrote.
“It was a spiritual sign, a message to surrender, to quit trying so intentionally to find the perfect woman for me, and, rather, concede to the natural selection process of finding her, her finding me, or not.”
He added, “So I quit looking for her.”
It was after he gave up the dedicated search that wife Camila Alves, 42, came into his life, he wrote.
“Three months later, I met Camila,” he divulged. “Twenty years later she’s still the only woman I’ve ever wanted to take on a date, sleep with, or wake up next to.”
The longtime couple were first linked in 2006 after meeting at West Hollywood nightclub Hyde.
They welcomed son Levi in 2008, daughter Vida in 2010, and son Livingston in 2012 — the same year they tied the knot.
In September, McConaughey revealed that it was actually his eldest son — then four — who helped convince the “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” star to marry Alves.
McConaughey shared during an episode of Chris Williamson’s “Modern Wisdom” podcast that Levi questioned why his mom and dad didn’t share a last name. “I’m going through my head, ‘You’re f–king 4, dude,’” the actor recalled.
“I sat there. I was like, ‘It’s a great question, but I mean, we’re not married. When you get married, you switch your name,’” he said.
McConaughey said his son asked if he was “scared” to make the commitment, and admitted to himself that he was.
McConaughey ultimately married Alves after seeking advice from a pastor and other “elder men” who were “married for decades,” he shared.
