Matthew Perry has died age 54. He is reported to have been found dead from an apparent drowning in the jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles.

Sources told TMZ no drugs were found at the scene and foul play is not suspected.

A haunting last picture posted to his Instagram five days ago shows the Friends star, who played beloved jokester Chandler Bing, relaxing in a jacuzzi.

He appeared to be listening to music and looking out, as the moon shone over the Hollywood hills around his home.

He captioned the image: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”

After finding fame on Friends, Perry went on to have a somewhat steady career in film in the late 90s and early 00s in rom-coms and comedies including The Whole Nine Yards with Bruce Willis, Fools Rush In and Three To Tango.

In his later years he appeared in films including 17 Again, and in TV shows including a reboot of The Odd Couple alongside Thomas Lennon.

However, Perry did struggle with alcoholism after finding success in his early years.

Tributes have begun to pour in for the star. TV presenter Piers Morgan took to Twitter to share his condolences. He wrote: “RIP Matthew Perry, 54. The Friends star was a great actor, but by his own admission, a very tormented guy.

“His recent autobiography about his addiction-ravaged life was one of the most powerful, honest, and revealing I’ve ever read. Such sad news.”
