Jungle celebrity Maura Higgins is reportedly hit hard, “in a bad way…and really struggling”, as friends confide in light of her alleged peck with Danny Jones at the BRIT Awards. Amid the scandal of her tipsy embrace with the hitched McFly musician, Higgins jetted off to Los Angeles for a glamorous photoshoot. Her circle has revealed that she’s been bombarded with detestable online trolling, describing the past days as “horrendous” for her.
An inside source disclosed to The Mirror: “Maura is a tough character, but the reaction to events of the last week has been utterly relentless, and it’s fair to say it’s taken its toll. She has found all of this very difficult to navigate. She appreciates she’s in the public eye, and there is extra interest around her, but the abuse is off the charts, and people need to calm down.”
Caught looking solemn at Los Angeles International Airport late last week, Higgins arrived for her professional engagement. The source mentioned: “She is trying to treat things as business as usual, but it’s hard.”
The uproar unfolded after footage surfaced showing Danny, 38, and Maura, 34, allegedly locked in a fleeting kiss during a BRIT Awards post-ceremony celebration around 3 a.m, reports the Mirror.
The duo could be seen reportedly departing the London event in quick succession. Another clip displaying them both at an additional afterparty at Nobu Hotel in Marylebone stoked further controversy.
A source revealed: “Danny and Maura seemed to be enjoying their night of partying. They were knocking back wine at the Nobu from 4am and seemed keen to carry on. They weren’t seen leaving before 6am.”
Neither Maura nor Danny has publicly spoken on the footage of their drunken kiss. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Danny’s wife of 10 years, Georgia, felt the kiss was a “slap in the face”.
The couple have been married since 2014 and share a seven-year-old son.
