Mayim Bialik got a taste of the limelight at the tender age of 12 when she starred in the 1990s sitcom Blossom. After a rather lengthy hiatus, Bialik, now armed with a doctorate in neuroscience, returned to Hollywood once more.
This time, the former child star and bona fide genius clinched the role of Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler in the phenomenally successful sitcom, The Big Bang Theory.
Although Bialik initially appeared on the show as a guest star, Amy and Sheldon Cooper became such a potent combination that Bialik earned a recurring spot almost immediately after her initial appearance.
By the time The Big Bang Theory closed its final chapter in 2019, Bialik had not only transitioned to main cast status, but also become an indispensable part of the show. Here’s why, despite the show being an integral part of her life for close to a decade, Bialik has never watched it.
Mayim Bialik Has Not Watched Most Episodes Of The Big Bang Theory
Mayim Bialik was a staple on The Big Bang Theory for close to a decade, portraying Amy Farrah Fowler, love interest to beloved neurotic genius Sheldon Cooper. Despite her rather lengthy stint on the show, Bialik has never watched it.
“I’ve never seen most of the episodes,” Bialik disclosed to Metro UK back in 2020. “I don’t watch myself on television. I’ve never sat and watched an episode of our show, ever. I’ve seen snippets on stage when they would show them to the audience but no, I don’t watch myself. I saw pieces [of the last episode] but I was in it, you know?”
Mayim’s reluctance to watch the iconic show is understandable, considering that watching television has never been one of her favorite pass times.

“I was raised in the kind of household where we didn’t really watch a lot of television,” Bialik admitted on an episode of Justin Long’s Life is Short Podcast. “We watched a lot of like, sitcoms when my parents didn’t want to deal with us, but we didn’t do that as a family.”
Mayim Bialik Is Not The Only Big Bang Theory Star Who Struggles With Watching The Show
Astoundingly, Bialik is not the only Big Bang Theory star who struggles with watching the show. On a December 2020 episode of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Kaley Cuoco, who portrayed Penny for 15 seasons, admitted that she also finds some episodes of the show difficult to watch.
“The early episodes of Big Bang, I can’t believe how many hairstyles I had and just like the different clothes. It’s very weird,” Cuoco admitted. “I’m much more okay watching the earlier seasons as opposed to the more recent ones. The recent ones are still too recent for me,” she continued.
“It’s just too emotional for me. The early, early ones feel like a different person and feel like a different time, so I’m able to watch it and laugh. But the recent ones are tough. It was strange getting out of that and figuring what the next step was going to be.”
How Did Mayim Bialik Feel About The Big Bang Theory Ending?
While binging all fifteen season of The Big Bang Theory is not at the top of Mayim Bialik’s agenda, the actress still found her time on the show incredibly fulfilling.
In her interview with Metro UK, the Blossom star gushed over Amy’s relationship with Sheldon Cooper saying, “I think it’s a really beautiful example of what unconditional love really looks like. There was a lot of give and take, it wasn’t just her tolerating him, he also had to make a lot of adjustments and changes.”
Like her co-stars, the actress was understandably saddened by the show’s untimely end. “It’s very surreal to be a part of a job for 10 years,” Bialik told Metro UK, “which in any climate I think is really an accomplishment, but we were together not only as cast members but as a presence on the television,” she continued.
“It’s kind of like a double identity which makes it even more complicated and beautiful. I’ve never had a job as good as The Big Bang Theory and I would have done it for as long as people wanted me to do it. I would have made a one-woman show if I would have been allowed to.”
