Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson first captured hearts on TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras, quickly becoming a fan-favorite thanks to her larger-than-life pageant queen personality. Her popularity ignited, leading to her very own spinoff, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, where viewers got a glimpse into her quirky Southern family.

In recent years, attention has shifted to her older sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, who was granted sole custody of Alana amid their mother June “Mama June” Shannon’s well-publicized struggle with addiction — leaving fans eager to learn more about the sibling who stepped up.

Who Is Alana Thompson’s Sister Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird?

Lauryn is one of Mama June’s four daughters. The family matriarch shared her late daughter Anna Marie “Chickadee” Cardwell with ex David Dunn. Lauryn and her older sister, Jessica Shannon, share the same father, Michael Anthony Ford. Meanwhile, Alana is the youngest of the four sisters and her father is Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson.

Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird Was Awarded Custody of Alana in 2022

In March 2019, Mama June and her then-boyfriend Eugene “Geno” Doak were arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. They later faced felony charges surrounding the arrest and their criminal charges were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Shannon and Doak were sentenced in August 2021. As part of a plea agreement, Shannon was sentenced to 100 hours of community service, court supervision and other conditions that included random drug screenings, according to E! News. Doak was sentenced to 16 months in the community corrections program. Shannon and Doak later split the following month.

In December 2021, Lauryn filed for custody of her younger sister and she was later awarded sole custody of Alana in April 2022. Along with the new custody arrangement, June was ordered to pay Lauryn $800 in child support per month for Alana for the time being. Alana turned 18 in August 2023.

Is Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird Married?

Lauryn was married to Josh Efird from 2018 to 2024. The reality TV star filed for divorce in August 2024, noting their marriage was “irretrievably broken,” according to court documents obtained by In Touch at the time. The pair agreed to have joint custody of their four kids, Ella, Bentley, Sylus and Stella.

Less than a month after the split, Lauryn moved on with a new romance, dating a man named Darrin Kitchens. She debuted the romance in an August 10, 2024, Facebook post, revealing they attended a Zach Bryan concert. She wrote in the caption, “How lucky are we,” along with a red heart emoji to show they already have feelings for one another.

According to Darrin’s social media profiles, he’s native to Macon, Georgia, and works as an equipment operator at Vulcan Materials Company. In Touch confirmed in August 2024 that he’s also a divorcee, having been married and divorced to the same woman three times.

Darrin filed for divorce from his first wife, Shannon Kitchens, three times between the years 2020 and 2024, according to legal documents viewed by In Touch. The pair are believed to have at least one child together.

Meanwhile, Joshua was reportedly seeing a woman named Keely.
