The Boston, Massachusetts, native is best known for starring on all three seasons of Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum. James describes himself as a “proud nerd who enjoys outdoor activities and indoor games equally,” in his Instagram bio.

What Does Love on the Spectrum’s James B. Jones Do for a Living?

James is an onsite support specialist with Tata Consultancy Services — also known as TCS — in Boston, according to his LinkedIn profile. As of April 2025, he celebrated five years in the position.

The tech worker described himself as a “detail-oriented and highly motivated IT professional with excellent customer service skills.” He also has “intimate knowledge of wiring and electronics, especially computer components and hardware.”

James has worked in the tech field since 2013, holding such positions as a PC support specialist and configuration specialist.

“This year marks twenty years since I graduated from high school, and I honestly cannot believe that that much time has passed since that time of my life, and so much has changed since then,” James began a deeply personal Instagram post on March 30, 2025.

“At that time, I was uncertain of the direction in which I wished to take my life, but I now am living my best life. I have an excellent job, I have several wonderful circles of friends, and I am even a star on a major Netflix series!” he proudly wrote.

Ambitious James noted, “The only thing that I currently do not have is my own house, but I hope to have that soon, as well.”

What Type of Autism Does James B. Jones Have?

James has Asperger’s syndrome, part of the broader range of neurological disorders on the autism spectrum. Those who have Asperger’s “may have a hard time relating to others socially and a narrow range of interests,” according to the National Children’s Hospital, in addition to exhibiting “repetitive behavior patterns.”

The reality star addressed how he had issues relating to others socially as a child in his March 30, 2025, Instagram post while discussing his achievements.

“When I was younger, my social skills were not nearly as good as they are now. I was rather nervous about being in large crowds and/or unfamiliar situations. But I was able to gradually improve, through effort and determination, plus assistance from my parents, teachers and psychologists, as well,” James recalled.

He added, “That portion of my life was one of great growth and discovery, about both the world and myself, so I certainly did my best to not only acquire new knowledge, but also develop my ability to interact with others and learn how to be comfortable in unfamiliar situations or settings.”

Did James B. Jones Find Love on ‘Love on the Spectrum’?

In the first two seasons of the series, James failed to make a long-lasting connection. However, that changed in season 3 when he met his girlfriend, Shelley Wolfe, online and their virtual connection turned into a relationship.

Shelley shared her first Instagram post featuring James in June 2024, when they attended a Renaissance fair. The duo once again dressed up for another fair in September 2024, and Shelley accompanied James to the Love on the Spectrum season 3 premiere in Los Angeles in April 2025.

“I love her very much, since she and I have much in common, but we also bring out the best in each other and inspire each other to grow and improve as people,” James told Netflix’s Tudum in April 2025. “I am so very glad that she and I have met!”
