Meghan Markle has officially stepped back into the spotlight, returning to acting with her involvement in Amazon MGM Studios’ latest romantic comedy, Close Personal Friends. This eagerly awaited film features an impressive cast including Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Henry Golding, and Jack Quaid.
In a surprising yet exciting development, Meghan Markle was seen filming in Pasadena, California, on November 5, where she is reportedly playing herself in the movie. This role marks her first acting gig since she bid farewell to the popular legal drama Suits in 2017, prior to her marriage to Prince Harry.
Guiding the project is director Jason Orley, known for his work on Bupkis and I Want You Back, with a script penned by Isaac Aptaker, the mind behind How I Met Your Father and I Want You Back. Although specifics about the film’s storyline remain under wraps, insiders suggest Meghan’s participation is a significant milestone, offering her a chance to reconnect with her passion for acting.
A source close to the production shared, “She’s been flooded with offers, but this one resonated with her. It’s Meghan’s gentle way of dipping her toes back into the acting world, seeing if the experience brings her joy. The entire team is thrilled and has been keeping her involvement under tight wraps. Prince Harry is wholeheartedly supportive, encouraging her to pursue what makes her happy.”
Collins, who’s starring in the film, even posted a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram with her co-stars, captioning it, “Close (personal) friends only…” Golding replied, “💃🏼🎉The 4 best friends anybody ever had 🎉💃🏼,” while Quaid added a few simple red heart emojis.
Another insider who was present during filming shared with People that Meghan appeared “very relaxed and happy” on set. “She was gracious, introducing herself to everyone and exuding a down-to-earth charm,” the source noted. “Though her role is small, she seemed genuinely delighted to be back in the filming environment.”
While Close Personal Friends doesn’t yet have an official release date, anticipation is already sky-high.
