Mindy Kaling insists pal Meghan Markle is ‘down-to-earth’ and has ‘no expectations of fanciness’ despite living in $14M mansion

Mindy Kaling is shooting down a “misconception” about pal Meghan Markle being “fussy.”

The “Office” alum described the Duchess of Sussex as “a very generous woman” while recalling her appearance on the royal’s upcoming Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan.”

“I think a misconception about Meghan is that she’s in any way fussy or has expectations of fanciness,” Kaling said in an interview with Time published Wednesday.

Despite living in a $14.65 million Montecito, Calif., home with Prince Harry, the TV producer insisted that Markle “really is a down-to-earth person who knows a lot of fun tricks to make entertaining and cooking easier.”

Kaling, 45, was invited to appear on Markle’s lifestyle series while on maternity leave after welcoming her third baby in February 2024.

“[She asked] would I want to come to Montecito and have her cook for me? I wanted to get taken care of in that moment of my life. That was a fun maternity leave field trip,” the “Mindy Project” alum said.

“And I left with a basket of fresh produce and homemade jam and hot sauce because she knew I loved hot sauce. She’s a very generous woman who knew I needed a break.”

Kaling said she even picked up some hosting tips from the “Suits” alum, 43, since the theme was throwing a party for children.

“I love cooking, but I’m really not good at entertaining,” the “Sex Lives of College Girls” co-creator confessed.

“I don’t know anything about how you’re not supposed to use overhead lighting when people come over. You’re supposed to use little lamps. But Meghan just knows how to do that stuff.”

Despite the praise from Kaling, Markle has reportedly earned a couple of scathing nicknames for allegedly being “really difficult to deal with.”

Last month, UK royal correspondent Neil Sean claimed to Fox News that staffers working on the duchess’ canceled Spotify podcast, “Archetypes,” referred to her as Eva.

The nickname was allegedly a reference to Joan Crawford’s diva-like character Eva Phillips in the 1955 movie “Queen Bee.”

Sean claimed Markle’s former employees would use the nickname “as a warning signal to let people know that she was either arriving or on the warpath.”

Markle — who wed Prince Harry in 2018 — was also allegedly referred to as “Duchess of Difficult” by palace staff, according to British journalist Tom Quinn.

“She could be difficult because she was finding life difficult — trying to feel her way and work out the intricacies of a positively medieval, labyrinthine system,” an anonymous palace staff member reportedly told Quinn.

The source added, “Through absolutely no fault of her own, Meghan wasn’t always great with her staff — she just wasn’t used to it as Harry was.”
