Mindy Kaling recently took part in the nostalgic Instagram trend from 2016, but her contribution carried a touch of emotion with it.
In her post, the actress confessed that she was initially reluctant to join the viral trend due to the noticeable changes in her appearance following her weight loss journey over the past decade.
“I saw this 2016 trend and loved it and almost didn’t post because I look different, but these pics are too fun not to share. (I wonder if anyone else can relate lol) but I loved this time and all my memories from then, so had to post! enjoy!!!!” she wrote on Thursday.
Fans were quick to show their support in the comments section, where she shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos from her popular show, “The Mindy Project.”
One fan enthused, “Hilarious then. Hilarious now. Beautiful then. Beautiful now,” while another chimed in, “Iiiiiii relate. But we wouldn’t be here now without being there then.”
“This is the Mindy we fell in love with. Not your weight, not your dress size but the talented writer, creator and comedic genius you are,” a third fan wrote.
Kaling — who began her weight loss journey in 2020 — flaunted her 40-pound weight loss in a daring cut out dress while attending the star-studded Golden Eve event last week.
Although Kaling, 46, has been hit with speculation that she turned to a GLP-1 weight loss drug to trim her figure, she claims she did so just by eating smaller portions.
“I eat what I like to eat. If I do any kind of restrictive diet, it never really works for me. I just eat less of it,” she told Entertainment Tonight in April 2022.
She also shared that she decided to start being more aware of what she consumes after welcoming her second child in September 2020.
By March 2023, the “Never Have I Ever” creator lost 40 pounds.
“I’m feeling really confident in my body these days, which is not something that I’ve been able to say for my whole life, unfortunately,” she told People in May 2023, adding that she tries “not to tune into” headlines about her weight.
By July of that year, the “Office” alum declared she was done talking about her weight loss because people take it “so personally.”
During an interview with Allure, Kaling was asked if she had anything to say to people who felt they’ve lost “an ally” in the body inclusivity movement, but she shut down the question.
“It’s not super exciting for me to talk about my body and how it’s analyzed. So I think I’m just not going to get into it because it takes over the conversation unfortunately,” she told the outlet.
Despite any backlash she faced, Kaling proudly shared that same year that she was the “healthiest [she’s] been in years” because of her weight loss.
