The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives has been renewed for Season 2, and ahead of its return, there was some initial speculation about whether Miranda McWhorter would return. She took a step back from the show after experiencing the infamous MomTok scandal, but recently revealed that she’s making a comeback. However, it was not a decision she made without serious consideration.

“I think, especially through the first season, I tossed the idea back and forth, and ultimately I decided that it wasn’t a good fit,” she told Us Weekly. “I think there are a lot of reasons for that.” But why did she not want to be in front of the cameras before?

In her recent chat with Us Weekly, Miranda confirmed that she had chosen not to appear on reality TV during Season 1 because of her relationship troubles with her now ex-husband, Chase McWhorter. “I wasn’t quite going through a divorce at the time of the decision-making process, but had I decided to, my divorce would’ve been on [the show], and I think that would’ve been very difficult,” she said. “Reality TV isn’t always great for relationships.”

Despite their split, the former couple is dedicated to co-parenting their two children. Still, it wasn’t only the marital stress and finding her new normal after becoming a single mom that Miranda needed to navigate at the time; she also had to address her feelings about Taylor Frankie Paul.

Discussing the relationship, Miranda said it would have been challenging to work with Taylor at the time because they were “not close.” She felt it would be healthier for both of them if she were to step away. Does that mean they are friends? When speaking about Taylor she chose to remain very diplomatic but noted how she has a “completely different perspective.” The two women have since had “uncomfortable” conversations, but the events that have transpired from the scandal coming to light have, in a way, brought Miranda peace (fans will likely get a better glimpse into her relationship with Taylor on the show).

In her interview, Miranda also discussed how she is in a different place now and feels like she has grown. “I had come to terms with a lot of things, and I think I grew a lot as a person,” she said. “And so, between all of that and obviously being able to support my children, I think it all played a role in my decision to come back, and it was a hard decision to make, but I’m glad I did.”

The official Instagram account for the reality series also shared a photo ahead of Season 2’s premiere on May 15. “The drama is just getting started. A new season of #TheSecretLivesOfMormonWives premieres May 15 on @hulu and with #HuluOnDisneyPlus,” the caption reads. In the comments, fans have discussed the cast. “Love how Miranda randomly decided to join cuz she saw how much of a success the show was getting lol,” a comment reads. “Me screaming seeing @miranda__mcw,” another person wrote.
