Malik Beasley’s wife Montana Yao has filed for separation after nearly five years of marriage.

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, Yao, 27, filed for a legal separation on Monday, March 3, two days before the pair’s fifth wedding anniversary. The influencer cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.

Yao is seeking spousal support and attorneys fees from the Detroit Pistons player, 28. TMZ was first to report the news.

Beasley and Yao tied the knot in March 2020. One year before walking down the aisle, they welcomed their first child, son Makai, now 5. The twosome expanded their family in November 2022 with daughter Mia.

This isn’t the first time Beasley and Yao have experienced relationship issues. In December 2020, Beasley was photographed holding hands with Larsa Pippen. When the photos went viral, Yao addressed the situation on social media.

“Wow… I don’t even know this man,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories at the time. “This is wild y’all I’m seeing it for the first time just like y’all.”

Later that month, Yao filed for divorce. Beasley and Pippen continued to see each other. In February 2021, Pippen claimed that she and the basketball player had discussed his marital status before they began their romance.

“I googled them when I first met him — they weren’t together,” she said during an appearance on Hollywood Unlocked With Jason Lee. “They had issues before. It had nothing to do with me, so I wasn’t thinking anything about it. If you spent a minute googling their situation, it wasn’t the ideal situation, way before me.”

Two months later, Us confirmed that Beasley and Pippen called it quits. Beasley and Yao later reconciled and the athlete took to social media to apologize to his wife.

“For the record I was the one who ended my last relationship off the fact that there is no one like you,” he wrote via Instagram in May 2021. “Also for the record I wanted to do my own ish cuz I just left u guys and I def ain’t the type to set up pictures at the mall n ish .. as that’s some childish ish and I’m trying to grow individually and grow a family .. a real family .. I ain’t looking to be judged I’m looking for forgiveness.. To forgive me for hurting my family the way I did. … At the end of the day I’m a lover boy and I miss holding y’all and loving y’all.”
