Rock legend Iggy Pop surprised fans at a London concert as he made an exit to remember. After the 78-year-old’s performance in Alexandra Palace, as part of his Lust For Life tour, he was taken off stage in a bizarre way on Friday night.

The star was wheeled off in a jet black coffin, detailed with metallic studs. The inside of the deathbed was lined with royal red fabric as the shirtless singer leaned backwards into it, making himself comfortable, before being wheeled away to a chorus of cheers. His hand could be seen sticking out of the coffin lid, waving to the crowd, as he left the show in spectacular style.

Posting a video of the event to his social media account, after the stunt, Iggy shared a statement explaining why it happened. He wrote: “London was a hoot! How you exit is equally important to how you enter.”

But fans were not too sure about the stunt. One commented, seemingly thinking it was a bad omen, as they said: “I hope nothing happens anytime soon. What you do, sometimes comes back on you.”

However, others absolutely loved it. “Truly great gig. Come back soon,” one demanded. Another added: “Only Iggy … may he long reign.” One more posted: “Fantastic! You are Master!” as someone else gushed: “Always that smile…mischievous charmer.”

The superstar kicked off the gig with Stooges track TV Eye and rattled through 20 tracks. His final hit on stage was Funtime after a cover version of The Dee Jays track Real Wild Child.

Iggy, whose real name is James Osterberg Jr, has been going shirtless for most of his recent UK shows. The superstar has reached worldwide fame after being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 as a member of the rock band The Stooges.

The artist’s illustrious career has seen him nominated for numerous awards, including Grammy nods for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for the track “Cold Metal,” and Best Alternative Music Album for “Post Pop Depression.” He was bestowed with a Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 2020.
