Naomi Watts certainly looked the part.
The 57-year-old actress paid homage to her on-screen persona, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, at the “Love Story” premiere on Tuesday. She channeled the former First Lady’s flair for midcentury elegance and signature long white gloves.
At New York’s Carnegie Hall, Watts captivated the audience in a striking black Balenciaga gown. The dress, featuring a cold-shoulder design and a crystal-adorned neckline, offered just the right touch of sparkle.
Her choice of accessories was equally compelling. Watts completed her ensemble with immaculate white opera-length gloves and stunning Cartier diamond earrings valued at $133,000. These earrings boasted a total of 30 diamonds, including 24 baguette cut, 4 princess cut, and 2 troidia cut gems.
Sporting her blonde bob in soft waves, Watts’s appearance was enhanced by makeup artist Mary Wiles, who aimed for “effortless elegance” with a focus on “glowing skin and fresh makeup,” as she shared in a post after the event.
Stylist Jeanann Williams pulled the ensemble together for the actress, who is set to star in the upcoming FX series chronicling the romance and tragic fate of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.
The choice of gloves was a fitting nod to one of the former First Lady’s favorite accessories. Kennedy Onassis was known for wearing white gloves for daytime and formal events alike throughout the 1960s, pairing them with evening gowns for state dinners at the White House and glamorous galas abroad.
Balenciaga, then, was a natural choice for Watts’ look, as creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli has made opera gloves a signature accessory since joining the house last year.
Already, they’ve become a red carpet staple, appearing on Demi Moore at Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards, Tate McRae at the Grammys and Tessa Thompson at a Doha gala.
“Love Story” premieres Feb. 12 on FX and Hulu.
