Nicole Kidman is remaining optimistic despite her ongoing divorce from Keith Urban.

“There’s something to knowing that no matter how painful, or how difficult, or how devastating something is, there is a way through,” the actress, 58, said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar published on Thursday, October 9. “You’re going to have to feel it. You’re not going to be able to numb it. You are going to have to feel it, and it’s going to feel insurmountable at times. You’re going to feel like you’re broken, but if you move gently and slowly — and it can take an enormous amount of time — it does pass.”

Kidman added that the “best part” about getting older is the “experiences” you accumulate and the lessons they provide.

“So you go, ‘Oh, I’ve been here before. I actually know how to handle this now,’” she explained. “Or, ‘Maybe I haven’t been in this place, but I’ve experienced something similar to this, and I do know that I will get through it.’”

As Kidman has gotten older, she’s not afraid to be candid about her life experiences.

“I want to be able to share and impart the things I’ve learned. I’ve seen a lot, I’ve experienced a lot, and I’ve survived a lot,” she told the outlet. “I want to pass on some of that knowledge and that wisdom and whatever I’ve learned.”

While Kidman doesn’t want to tell “people what to do,” she’s “more than happy” to pass along her knowledge.

“People can take tidbits, because we all know you tell somebody to do something, and they’re going to do what they want to do anyway,” she continued. “That’s true, right? So it’s more about sharing your own experiences, saying this is what I’ve learned, take from it what you will.”

As for what’s keeping her motivated, Kidman gushed that she’s “grateful” to be “alive.”

“I’m grateful to be a part of this world. I’m grateful to be surviving as a woman, as an actress, and as a producer, professionally and personally,” she reflected. “Also, my children [give me the] purpose of being their protector and their guide, promising them that I’m here and that, no matter what, there’s always a safe place to grow up in.”

Us Weekly confirmed last month that Kidman and Urban separated after nearly 19 years of marriage. After news broke of their split, Kidman filed for divorce from the country singer, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the breakup.
According to court documents obtained by Us, Kidman also submitted a marital dissolution agreement signed by herself and Urban. The paperwork included several documents related to their two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, including a parenting plan, a child support plan and a “parenting seminar order.”

One day earlier, Kidman spoke with Vogue. While the discussion took place before news broke of her split from Urban, Kidman opened up about how she copes with life’s hardships.

“I put it in my work. That’s the beauty of what I do,” she told the outlet in a cover story published on Wednesday, October 8. “There’s a place for some of this to explode, implode, process [and] discover.”
