Over the last several decades, most people have come to agree that television has gone through a golden age. As a result, it can be extremely hard for shows to stand out since there is so much quality competition these days.

Despite all the great shows that have aired over the last few decades, some series have managed to go down in history. While talking about those legendary series, fans love to discuss the best TV dramas and more specific things like the best crime shows.

Amazingly enough, The Wire is almost always listed as one of the best shows in both of those categories and a lot of people call it the best TV series ever made. Because The Wire is so beloved and respected, some people still debate what the show was really about to this day.

On top of wanting to examine The Wire’s legacy, some fans would love to see it get a revival series like several shows have over the last several years. Sadly, however, on top of how difficult it would be to live up to The Wire’s legacy, making a sequel series would be difficult since several of the show’s stars have passed away.

What Happened To Robert Hogan From The Wire?

During the second season of The Wire, a lot of the show’s plot revolved around longshoremen who work at the docks. Most notably, the season introduced the Sobotka family whose members were in a position of power in the dockworkers’ union.

As fans of The Wire will no doubt remember, the members of the Sobotka family that were most focused on were Frank, Nick, and Ziggy. However, some fans may have forgotten that the character Louis Sobotka appeared in four episodes of the show.

The father of Nick, Louis was a former longshoreman who was forced to retire. Since Louis was retired, he didn’t have a huge impact on the show’s plot early on, but he wound up having an important role since he convinced his son Nick to turn himself in.

Before Robert Hogan brought Louis to life, he’d already had an impressive career that included appearances in a very long list of shows.

Sadly for Hogan and his loved ones, he was diagnosed with vascular Alzheimer’s disease in 2013. After battling that ailment for many years, Hogan passed away from complications from pneumonia when he was 87 years old in 2021.

What Happened To Reg E. Cathey From The Wire?

Historically speaking, most crime shows have principally shown a hyper-focused view of the world. After all, crime shows usually focus on a small group of police officers and the criminals that those cops spend their time trying to bring to justice.

One of the main things that made The Wire such a great show is that on top of focusing on cops and street criminals, it showed other people who play a role in the criminal justice system. A perfect example of that is during the fourth season of The Wire, the show started to focus on politicians more.

As The Wire progressed, the politician Thomas Carcetti started playing a major role.

As a result, Reg E. Cathey also became an important member of The Wire’s cast once he started portraying Norman Wilson, one of Carcetti’s most important advisers and operatives.

Easily one of the best actors of his generation, it is mind-blowing that Cathey never became a huge star. That said, there is no denying that Cathey had a truly incredible career that any actor would be proud of.

In 2018, the world was saddened to learn the news that Cathey passed away at only 59 years old. After The Wire’s creator David Simon tweeted about Cathey passing away, the actor’s agent revealed that the cause of Reg’s death was that he suffered from lung cancer.

What Happened To Robert F. Chew From The Wire?

When most fans think about The Wire, the characters they remember running the criminal world include Stringer Bell, Avon Barksdale, and Marlo Stanfield. As a result, the character Proposition Joe often doesn’t get remembered the way he should.

Easily one of The Wire’s most intelligent and crafty characters, Joe can be seen pulling a lot of strings throughout The Wire’s five seasons. In most cases, Joe sought non-violent solutions to the conflicts in the criminal underground while also consolidating power for himself.

As was the case with most of the criminals seen on The Wire, Joe’s conduct eventually caught up with him.

Perfectly cast as Joe, the actor Robert F. Chew only took on a handful of other roles throughout his career. Still, there is no doubt that Chew’s portrayal of Joe has cemented his legacy.

In 2013, Chew’s passing was announced on Twitter by his former co-star Michael K. Williams. After the news broke, Chew’s sister revealed that the actor died from heart failure in his sleep.

What Was Lance Reddick’s Cause Of Death?

Throughout The Wire’s five seasons, the show introduced fans to a slew of characters with huge personalities. In a world full of grandiose behavior, Cedric Daniels stands out as a quiet, serious, and dedicated character who is only interested in doing what is right.

When Daniels is first introduced, it is easy to think that he may turn out to be a bit of a wet blanket on what makes the show work. In the end, however, Daniels served as the backbone of the show, and he helped ground the series in reality.

The kind of actor who can be depended on to make the most out of every second he appears onscreen, Lance Reddick’s portrayal of Daniels should be studied by actors everywhere. As a result, it makes perfect sense that Reddick constantly landed notable roles throughout his career.

After rising to another level of fame due to his role in the John Wick franchise, Reddick suddenly passed away when he was 60 years old. According to a statement from Reddick’s representative, Mia Hansen, the actor passed away from natural causes.

How Did Michael K. Williams From The Wire Die?

Throughout The Wire’s five seasons, the show introduced a long list of extremely compelling characters. Even still, there is no debate about the fact that Omar Little is the character from The Wire who gets talked about the most.

Amazingly enough, President Barack Obama once spoke about how Omar was The Wire’s best character when he was still in office.

A modern-day Robin Hood, Omar stole from rich criminals and helped people who were down and out. On top of living by his code, Omar also stood out because he was openly gay in a world and time when a lot of people were understandably afraid of living like that.

Thanks to his incredible performance as Omar, Michael K. Williams went on to star in a slew of other movies and TV shows. When he wasn’t busy acting, Williams spent a lot of time working to help those who were in need in real life.

One of the main ways that Williams sought to help people is that he was open about his struggles with addiction. Tragically, Williams’ battle with that disease wound up taking his life as the beloved actor suffered the consequences of too many substances and passed away in 2021 at the age of 54.
