Olympic champion Sha’Carri Richardson has found herself in hot water after being arrested for speeding violations in Florida.

Reports from various media outlets indicate that the 25-year-old sprinter was stopped by police on Thursday, January 29, for allegedly driving at a high speed of 104 mph on a highway in Central Florida.

An Orange County Sheriff’s Office representative informed WCNC on Thursday that Richardson was observed “dangerously tailgating” and weaving through lanes to overtake other vehicles.

Richardson, who clinched a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, was subsequently taken to Orange County Jail. Us Weekly has verified that she is facing charges for reckless speeding at rates exceeding 100 mph.

Former Seattle Seahawks Player Richard Sherman Charged With DUI

In a similar vein, former NFL player Richard Sherman faces charges of driving under the influence over a year after his original arrest. The incident occurred when a Washington state trooper stopped the 37-year-old early on February 24, 2024, for allegedly driving his Tesla at 79 mph in a 60 mph zone. Sherman’s vehicle was reportedly seen bouncing…

The athlete was held on a $500 bond. It is unclear whether she has since been released.

Richardson is no stranger to controversy. In July 2025, the Olympian was arrested at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport following a domestic violence incident involving her boyfriend Christian Coleman.

According to a police report obtained by The New York Times at the time, an arresting officer witnessed Richardson allegedly shove Coleman multiple times as the sprinter walked away from his girlfriend. The incident was also allegedly caught on a security camera.

Coleman refused to press charges and “declined to be a victim,” per the report.

“For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all round,” Coleman told reporters on August 3, 2025. “I don’t feel like she should have been arrested. I mean people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that.”

Richardson later took to her Instagram Stories to offer a public apology to Coleman in the wake of her domestic violence arrest.

“I apologize to Christian. He came into my life and gave me more than a relationship but a greater understanding of unconditional love from what I’ve experienced in my past,” Richardson, 25, wrote via her Instagram Story on Tuesday, August 12. “Due to past trauma and pain, I was blind and blocked off to not only receive it but give it. I love him and to him, I can’t apologize enough.”

She continued, “My apology should be just as loud as my actions, honestly louder. To Christian, I love you and I am so sorry.”

Richardson also promised her followers that she was “holding myself accountable” in a separate Instagram Story posted on August 11, 2025.

“I’m taking this time to not only see myself but get myself a certain level of help that overall is going to reflect who I truly am in my heart and my spirit and not allowing this moment — but accepting this moment — to be more,” she said.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been pulled over for excessive speeding twice since he was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft in April. Sanders, 23, was stopped by the Strongsville (Ohio) Police Department at 12:24 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, and cited for going 101 mph in a 60 mph zone […]

Richardson earned a silver medal in the 100m at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She placed second, earning the silver medal with 10.87. She finished 0.15 behind Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred, who took home the gold.

She also was part of Team USA’s gold-medal winning 4×100-relay team.

In the August 2025 edition of Vogue, Richardson spoke about how track and field was a “24/7 lifestyle” for her and opened up about the sacrifices she’d made to chase her sporting dreams.

“Every time I step onto the track, I think of all those moments when I was younger — all those feelings are still with me, I’m just that little girl grown up,” she told Vogue at the time.. “It’s almost like a flashback journey, everything that brought me to that point. All the grind, all the sacrifice. And there’s a feeling of, this moment is special because all of that, the good, the bad, it’s brought me here. And I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”
