Outlander fans 'work out' Fanny's surprising family connection to Claire Fraser

Outlander’s seventh season concluded with a shocking twist, hinting that Faith Fraser may have cheated death. Claire Fraser, portrayed by Caitríona Balfe, was visited by Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon) in a feverish dream-like state as she battled a gunshot wound.

Master Raymond offered an apology to Claire and hinted that her stillborn daughter had survived, with the 20th-century doctor later discovering a locket inscribed with ‘Faith’. Furthermore, Fanny Pocock (Florrie May Wilkinson) was heard singing Oh I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside, the same song Claire sang to Faith while holding the baby in her arms.

The series’ writers have confirmed they will pursue an alternate timeline where Master Raymond transported Faith to another world and resurrected her. This is a plotline Outlander author Diana Gabaldon intended to explore in a graphic novel but never did.

As a result, the show will deviate from the novels, but the storyline has the approval of Outlander’s creator. Since this major revelation, fans have been theorising about the plot and its potential connections to Claire’s family.

Moreover, with the prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood set to premiere in the summer and focusing on Claire’s parents Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield), fans are drawing connections between their fate and Faith’s survival, reports the Scottish Daily Express.

Reddit has been buzzing with theories, as one user speculated: “What if Fanny turns out to be Claire’s SISTER. Claire’s mom didn’t die in the car wreck. She accidentally travelled to the past.

“Jane and Frances were her daughters. She sang that song to Claire as a baby and then to Jane and Frances as babies. Master Raymond knew but never told Claire; that’s why he’s sorry. William and Jane have zero blood relation [sic].”

Another user chimed in: “This has a lot going for it. It follows the KISS principle and gets us there with less twists and turns and no worries about William having sex with his niece.”

The KISS principle or Occam’s razor is the theory of keeping it simple, stupid.

A third person added: “I like this very much! And I’ve just noticed that in the trailer for the new prequel the first thing Henry (Claires father) says or writes to Julia (her mother) is “I have decided to call you my Hope.

“So Hope and Faith.. not exactly the same but pretty similar things… [sic].”

Another comment read: “Remember that Claire did not choose Faith’s name… it could totally have been Master Raymond’s suggestion. And “Faith” doesn’t necessarily have to be someone’s name to be engraved on a locket.”

Yet another user stated: “I thought about the girls being Julia’s too, since she was a TT. It was very convoluted though. It does mean William didn’t s*** his Aunt, half sis, whatever [sic].”

In Outlander, it’s hinted that Claire’s parents, Henry and Julia, perished in a car accident when she was just five years old. However, fans have always questioned the veracity of this account.

Considering time travel is a hereditary trait in Outlander, Claire must have inherited her abilities from at least one of her parents, which again raises questions about whether Julia and Henry actually travelled back in time. A similar incident occurred with Roger MacKenzie’s father, Jeremiah Walter MacKenzie (played by Nicholas Ralph), who disappeared during World War II and ended up in the past.

The upcoming episode, Blood of My Blood, is expected to provide more insight into the mystery surrounding Claire’s parents and their demise, finally addressing the long-standing queries of the fans.

Outlander Season 7 is available to buy now on Digital and is streaming on MGM+ via Prime Video
