Outlander star Sam Heughan has opened up to fans about mental health struggles, shortly after the season eight trailer was released and author Diana Gabaldon discussed the mysterious voice featured in the footage.
In his Instagram post, the 45 year old actor shared a photograph of himself alongside a heartfelt message stating: “I’ve been lucky in my acting career, but there have been tough moments, reports the Daily Record.
“On those days, being in nature helps me reset and breathe.
“In such a fast-paced world, it’s essential to take time to disconnect and reconnect with ourselves and the world around us.”
The update formed part of a collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) UK, with Heughan joining other recognisable personalities in a series of images that featured Katrina Ridley, Peaky Blinders actress Amber Anderson, Haroon Mota, and businesswoman Portia Freeman.
The initiative marked World Mental Health Day on October 10, with WWF stating: “On World Mental Health Day, we’re celebrating the healing power of nature.
“Research shows that just 20 minutes a day outdoors can lift your mood, ease anxiety, and boost confidence. Because nature is so good at helping us feel well, we’re encouraging everyone to get their daily dose of it – whether that’s a walk in the park, listening to birdsong, or potting a houseplant.
“As part of our ongoing Prescription For Nature campaign, we invited familiar faces to share how time in nature has supported their mental health and wellbeing.”
Numerous admirers of Heughan flocked to the comments section to commend the performer.
One individual penned: “Good afternoon, Sam, I totally agree with you, there’s nothing like the beautiful nature of this world and serenity to give us peace in our mind and hearts! Glad you are taking the time for your soul and spirit.”
Another remarked: “Always dedicating us with your wisdom to always be connected with nature dear @samheughan.”
Whilst a third observed: “Its so true! When I feel sadness, no patience, negative, pain in the soul… it’s time for me to go in the wood , walk in the mountain, listening the wind in the leaves it’s reset my energy, my power, calm me down and reboot my mental !”.
“And of course walk along the sea on the beach and find a nice rock for my collection. I can do this a lot of kilometers [sic].”
Another fan shared: “o true nature brings us back to our basics..”
The announcement arrives as Heughan is performing on stage alongside The Crown’s Lia Williams in Macbeth in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
