British singer Petula Clark’s husband Claude Wolff has sadly died aged 93 following a short illness. The actress, 91, shared the heartbreaking news with her FaceBook followers on Wednesday.

Petula described the sadness she was feeling as “overwhelming” and admitted that her late husband’s death had left her “lost for words”. She wrote: “Our hearts are heavy.

“This afternoon – Claude, my husband of so many amazing years – passed away – leaving us lost for words to describe this awful emotion – grief.

“Thank you my lovely children, and friends, for giving me strength to get through this overwhelming sadness. Peace be with you chéri. R.I.P. Claude Wolff (1931-2024).”

Claude, who was an actor and producer in the film industry, previously collaborated on several projects with his estranged wife. Singer and actress Petula began her career as a child performer and has enjoyed a career spanning more than 80 years.

Petula and Claude share three grown-up children together: Katherine Natalie Wolff, Barbara Michelle Wolff and Patrick Wolff.

The pair met in 1957 at the Vogue label in Paris, with Claude admitting he was “immediately attracted” to Petula.

After the meeting they attended to discuss Petula’s recording contract, the singer was told Claude would readily work with her if she recorded in French, and she agreed.

They enjoyed three decades as a couple, before deciding to separate romantically. They remained amicably married until Claude’s death.

Petula opened up about their unconventional arrangement when she appeared on Loose Women in 2016.

She said: “We’re still married. Claude is the father of our wonderful children.

“We still live together but he has his own life and I have mine and it somehow works.’

“These things are difficult to talk about in public, but it works.”

Following the devastating announcement about Claude’s death, Petula’s followers took to the comments section to share their condolences.

“I’m so very sorry for your loss,” wrote Donald, while Susanne penned: “May his memory be a blessing.”

“Deepest condolences to you and your family,” Martyn commented, as Teresa added: “Prayers to you and your family.”

Ashley said: “Thoughts and prayers for you Petula along with your children and family. May Heavenly blessings be with you in this time of sadness.”
