Phil Tufnell talks 'getting panicky' on I’m A Celeb before dunny error | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Ex-England cricketer Phil Tufnell, 56, has shared a “grisly” insight into the dunny he and his fellow campmates had to use after competing on I’m a Celebrity…South Africa.

The former Question of Sport presenter previously took on the ITV reality show in Australia after getting the call from I’m A Celeb bosses in 2003.

However, Phil’s previous experience with basic toilet facilities didn’t prepare him enough for the dunny he and his fellow celebrities had to use.

He told this week’s Radio Times: “The toilet facilities are a bit grisly.

“I’ve toured all over the world and visited a few ropey WCs in my time, but the jungle long-drops took some getting used to.”

Phil went on to admit that he was starting to “panic” about using the dunny, after the camp’s rice and beans rations had left him constipated.

When the retired sportsman eventually visited the toilet, he was in for a nasty shock.

He added: “I didn’t go for days — must have been all the rice and beans — and was starting to get a little panicky.

“When I did finally go, it was a mistake to look down, but you quickly get desensitised.”

Despite the more gruesome moments, Phil still speaks fondly of the moment he was crowned King of the Jungle in 2003.

The presenter divulged: “To this day, I still don’t quite know why or how I won. There wasn’t a game plan.

“Getting votes from the public felt very nice. I kept progressing and the next thing I knew, they said, ‘By the way, Phil, you’ve won’. It’s a rare honour.

“When we got our international cricket caps, I was number 547 — the 547th player to represent England.

“There are only 12 Kings of the Jungle. I’m proud to be in that exclusive club. A big achievement.”

As a result, he didn’t hesitate in saying yes to taking part in I’m A Celebrity…South Africa.

The series was filmed to mark 20 years since I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! first aired on TV.

The All Stars show will bring together memorable celebrity contestants from over the years as they take on new challenges in a jungle in South Africa.

I’m A Celebrity South Africa will start on Monday 24th April at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
