Today, in an unexpected turn of events, the 66-year-old father of two, whose birthday coincides with the news, has been arrested for the first time since his connections with the infamous billionaire and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein surfaced. Despite facing numerous accusations, Andrew has always adamantly denied any involvement in wrongdoing. Piers Morgan, known for his blunt commentary, took to X/Twitter to share a terse reaction, announcing to his followers: “BREAKING NEWS: Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor arrested on the Sandringham royal estate by police investigating misconduct in public office. Stunning news.”

Should he be found guilty, the charge of misconduct in public office carries a potential life sentence.

The Thames Valley Police, adhering to UK legal standards by not publicly naming Andrew, released a statement on Thursday. It read: “As part of the investigation, we have today (19/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are conducting searches at properties in Berkshire and Norfolk.

“The man is currently in police custody. In line with national guidelines, we will not disclose the arrested individual’s name. It is important to remember that this case is now under active investigation, and any publication must exercise caution to avoid contempt of court.”

Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright added: “After a comprehensive assessment, we have initiated an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.”

“It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”

This isn’t the first time Piers has spoken out against Andrew, as the broadcaster famously criticised the royals’ car crash 2019 BBC interview and argued that the former prince lied about his relationship with Epstein and failed to show sufficient empathy for victims.

The journalist also questioned Andrew’s out-of-court settlement with Virginia Giuffre, estimated at £12 million. The former GMB star probed into how this was funded and argued that the settlement did not absolve Andrew’s need to tell the truth.

After the Department of Justice released the Epstein emails, Piers stated: “There are many unanswered questions, but one fact we know is that Prince Andrew lied to Emily Maitlis.” He added that Andrew won’t “ever be able to clear his name” unless he gives evidence under oath, but “I’m not holding my breath.”
