Exciting news for Love Island enthusiasts: a movie inspired by the beloved reality TV show could be on the horizon. While the franchise has expanded with various spin-offs, including a U.S. version, a full-length feature film has yet to be realized.
This week, an ITV America executive, the network responsible for the series, hinted at the possibility of bringing Love Island to the silver screen. Is it possible that the iconic villa could find a new home in theaters soon?
During a discussion with Deadline, David George, CEO of ITV America, shared his thoughts on a potential Love Island movie. He mentioned to the publication that, although there are currently no definitive plans, he is keen to explore this intriguing possibility:
ITV Says They’d Consider A Love Island Movie
In a conversation with Deadline, ITV America’s CEO, David George, spoke about the potential for a Love Island-related movie. He explained to the entertainment outlet that, while there were no concrete plans for a film at the moment, it was certainly an avenue he was interested in exploring:
Why are we not taking Love Island and figuring out how we’re going to translate that into the movie world? There may be something going there. I can’t even begin to tell you what it is, but there are those types of conversations.
David went on to explain that he and his team were working hard to think about how to expand the use of their own IP, and that turning one of their most popular shows into a longer format seemed like something natural to consider. He clearly seemed aware of just how much of a hit Love Island has been in the US, as he referred to its growth in popularity as a “lightning bolt” in the TV landscape and observed that it operated “more like a sport than a television show.”
David said that expanding to a movie was just one of several creative opportunities they were exploring with their programming. He also added that there were no limits in terms of where he saw the Love Island brand growing:
We are open to expanding the possibilities of what that brand is.
Other Reality TV Shows Have Been Made Into Movies Before
If Love Island were indeed to be turned into a feature-length film, it wouldn’t be the first reality TV show of its kind to do so. The most notable example hails from nearly two decades ago, when The Real World received a spin-off movie called The Real World Movie: The Lost Season.
The film premiered in 2002, produced by the same parent channel, MTV, and directed by Jeffrey Reiner. The film itself was centered around a crazed fan of the series.
As far as the topic of a Love Island movie goes, however, fans will have to keep patiently waiting to find out what ITV is thinking. Until then, there are more than enough episodes of Love Island for eager fans to catch up on —as of this article’s writing, there are 12 seasons of Love Island UK (the original branch that began in 2015 and continues annually with the summer series), and seven seasons of Love Island USA (the American adaptation that premiered in 2019 and most recently aired Season 7 in 2025), bringing the total to a whopping 19 seasons between the two.
All episodes of Love Island USA are available to stream on Peacock now.
