A show hailed as one of the top-tier science fiction shows in recent years has been getting a second wave of success after it landed on Prime Video previously.

The limited series first came out in 2014 on Syfy with an intriguing premise to grip viewers.

There were only six episodes and new audience members have been binging through the show and wanting more.

One person posted on Google Reviews: “One of the very best Sci-Fi shows I’ve seen in years. Every episode changes what you think is going on and reveals another layer.”

Another person posted a five-star review on Rotten Tomatoes: “I absolutely loved this. I started this in 2024 without realising it was only one series. I would pay a lot of money to see more or even if they could write a book.”

A third said: “The only tragedy is that it ended with just the mini series…”

Someone else commented: “Show has a great hook and really digs in with some interesting stories, good acting and interesting side stories.

“The first big hook might seem like something that sets it up for a simple reveal and an unexciting unwinding, but by the end of the season they set enough plots in motion that you are truly excited for the next season.”

As a fifth person noted: “Best sci-fi I’ve seen in a while. Good storyline, retains momentum.”

Taking to IMDb, one avid viewer said: “I am a science fiction lover and really did enjoy this show, BUT when I see “miniseries” I expect it to end after the 3 parts. That being said I found the story line to be believable and interesting with enough twists and turns to keep it that way.”

As another wrote: “Scifi [sic] that delivers… finally. As I read some of these other reviews I have to wonder if I watched the same miniseries as they did. This little series was a true gem. It delivered an actual story rather than relying on a ton of (bad) CGI. Something that doesn’t happen in this genre much anymore.

“The entire concept was fascinating. The shocking reveal at the end of hour 2 was perfectly played.

“The characters are believable. The 60’s environment frozen it time is fantastic. The conspiracy theorists websites and people were spot on! Loved it. This however, is a series for thinkers.

“If you need to turn your brain off to enjoy a series Ascension will not be for you. I’d suggest Transformers (gag).”

Ascension first hit screens over a decade ago, and thanks to the power of streaming has gain a new lease of life.

The mystery box series focused on a space ship 50 years into its mission, after it was first secretly launched back in the 1960s at the height of the Cold War and the Space Race.

The generational space ship, USS Ascension, was half-way into its 100-year mission to reach and colonise a planet orbiting Proxima Centauri, ensuring the survival of the human race.

However, things went awry when a murder occurred on board the vessel and the crew scrambled to get to the bottom of the slaying.

In their bid to uncover the truth, the crew began to question the true purpose of their mission.

Ascension starred Battlestar Galactica and Lucifer actress Tricia Helfer, The Shawshank Redemption’s Gil Bellows, Brian Van Holt of Cougar Town fame, Rescue Me’s Andrea Roth, and Dear White People’s Brandon P. Bell, among others.

Although Ascension fans have been demanding more from the show, US network SyFy confirmed there would be no further seasons.

They released a statement back in 2015: “We were very happy with Ascension as an event series, but with so much high profile development in the works, we have decided not to pursue a full series.”
