Bethenny Frankel reacted to reports that Real Housewives of New York is “canceled,” calling it “poetic” as she suggested why the reboot didn’t work. The 54-year-old also shared more details behind her decision to move to Florida, claiming she hasn’t been “totally honest” about it.

Back in 2022, the entire cast of RHONY was replaced with new stars. The ratings then took a nosedive, though Andy Cohen and the network seemed determined to make it work. Last week, however, a report suggested that the show was put on pause.

In a May 9 Instagram post, Bethenny reacted to the RHONY report.

“The Real Housewives of New York has been canceled,” said Bethenny. “It’s poetic. It is bittersweet. It is the end of an era for me personally and for that show, which was an alchemy of disaster. It was a flawed group of women in a flawed city, authentically being ourselves, unhinged.”

Bethenny then shaded the reboot.

“The powers that be pandered to society and tried to fit 25 pounds in a five-pound bag. And if you try to please everybody, you please nobody,” she said. “So they cast this glossy curated version of what they thought people wanted New York City to be instead of just a group of friends that live in New York City, being ridiculous, crazy, imperfect, making mistakes … and people loved it because no matter what, it was real. It was the realest that genre can be. So, bye New York, you will be missed.”

In another post, Bethenny addressed her recent move to Florida with her daughter.

“I haven’t been totally honest with you about this move,” she said. “So I’ve been pretty lonely for the past five or six years. And it started with the pandemic, which gave me license to be the introvert and insular person that everyone is surprised that I am. My friends know it very well because I look like a social person, but I’m not.”

“I could be home for days without leaving the house, and the pandemic gave me license to do that. But we were out in the Hamptons, and then I moved to the suburbs, and I thought it was gonna be amazing,” she said. “I didn’t know anyone, and it really became a cave where I was lonely and home and never went anywhere and never did anything.”

According to Bethenny, she would go out of town, put on outfits, and “act like I’m a social creature.”

“Today I’m in New York City, and I have a place here, and I ironically think this move is gonna reinvigorate my relationship with this city,” she said. “My daughter goes to school in the suburbs, and she doesn’t really ever want to stay here in the city because she wants to be near friends.”

“When I go to Florida, I walk outside and I go take a walk on the beach, and like, I’m just existing, like, with other human life,” she went on. “She said to me today, ‘Mom, I’m really excited for you … to have friends.’ Because my closest friends in my life are here, and I have just been keeping this inside because when you have something going on that you can’t change, you don’t talk about it.”

Bethenny suggested she wasn’t honest with herself, as she didn’t want to dump it on her daughter.

“When she really wanted to make this move, [I was like], it’s gonna save my life again. She saved my life,” said Bethenny. “I don’t want to just rot at home and feel like I’m wasting … years of my life.”
