Tom Schwartz shared why he initially didn’t want to join Vanderpump Rules. Meanwhile, his ex-wife, Katie Maloney, revealed what their marriage taught her, and she addressed what she would change about herself on the show.
In 2022, Katie filed for divorce from Tom, 12 years after they got together. At the time, she suggested that Tom wasn’t prioritizing their relationship. Both Katie and Tom are now seeing other people. Katie is in a serious relationship with Nick Martin, the lead singer of the band Sleeping with Sirens.
On the premiere episode of Tom’s Detox Retox podcast, Katie, his first guest, shared her surprise that Tom is leaning into his role as a TV personality, as he’s appearing on The Valley and Stars on Mars.
“Because … you pushed back on the whole reality TV personality whole song and dance for so long,” said Katie.
Tom admitted that, at the beginning of Pump Rules, he didn’t know if he “wanted to do” it, as he viewed himself as an “artist” and “actor.”
Tom then asked Katie what she learned about herself during their marriage.
“I learned that I have a lot of love to give,” said Katie. “And that I don’t want to … dull my shine in the process and forget who I am and what’s important to me and what I truly need and want … [And] to stand up for yourself.”
As for what she would change regarding Pump Rules, Katie said she would “not get drunk as much,” as these were her “worst moments.”
“I need to never get drunk,” emphasized the star, who shared that she doesn’t speak to “Tequila Katie” or her “dark side” anymore.
In a recent interview for the Humble Brag podcast, Katie gave an update on her post-divorce relationship with Tom.
“We’re cool, but we don’t go get lunch,” she said at the time. “We still have dogs, and they primarily live with him.”
According to Katie, she saw Tom more frequently while filming for the show.
“[I also saw him because of] the dogs. Because we share custody, a week on, week off. It was really intense,” she explained. “Filming the show post-divorce was a really strange place to be.”
