WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Sandman season 2

Netflix’s grand fantasy series, The Sandman, is set to conclude with a bonus episode, following confirmation that the show will be drawing to a close, reports the Mirror.

This additional instalment follows the completion of the main narrative in the second and final season of the fantasy saga.

The Sandman, boasting a star-studded cast, concluded with a dramatic twist that saw Morpheus’ infant son Orpheus morph into a fully grown adult (portrayed by Jacob Anderson).

Orpheus is now poised to assume his father Morpheus’ (Tom Sturridge) role as Dream of the Endless.

The bonus episode follows Netflix’s release of The Sandman in two parts, with episodes one to six debuting on July 3, and the remaining five, seven to 11, arriving on July 24.

Here’s a glimpse at the bonus episode and when you can begin streaming it.

When will The Sandman season 2, episode 12 be released?

The 12th episode of The Sandman’s second season will be available on Netflix from Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 8am.

This corresponds to midnight PST on North America’s Western Seaboard and 3am on the Eastern Seaboard on the day of release.

Netflix typically releases most of its shows at midnight PT, as the company’s headquarters are located in California, which operates in this timezone.

Entitled Chapter 12: Death: The High Cost of Living, the bonus episode will centre around Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), according to Variety.

The unexpected bonus episode earlier this year took fans by surprise and was unveiled by Netflix following the confirmation of the episode titles for the second season.

The first season also delighted viewers with an unanticipated bonus episode titled A Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope.

This special episode wove together the tale of a Siamese cat envisioning a new world and a struggling author who encounters Morpheus.

A Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope was crafted from the pages of Dream Country, spanning issues 17 to 20 of The Sandman comic series.

Will there be another season of The Sandman?

Netflix has put such speculations to rest, affirming that season two will conclude The Sandman’s journey on the platform.

Showrunner Allan Heinberg had envisioned a two-season arc from the outset, with this intention made public only in January this year, despite planning before summer 2023 filming commenced.

Yet, with a significant twist in the second season, there remains a possibility for new narratives to emerge.

Heinberg confessed his readiness to embark on a third season “instantly” if given the chance.

In conversation with Variety, he expressed his passion: “I would write this show for as long as they would let me. This show feels like all TV shows – like you can do anything.”

He elaborated on the versatility of The Sandman: “You can write about anything in the context of The Sandman in funny ways and romantic ways and scary ways.”

Heinberg shared his sorrow over the series ending, calling it a “creative dream” come true.

He praised The Sandman for its vast potential in storytelling, capable of exploring “all manner of stories” across “imaginary realms and time periods”.

He further commented: “And this has been an education for me, this show, in every way – as all shows are, but more so this time. And I can’t believe Netflix let us make it.”
