Tippi Hedren, the iconic actress known for her role in “The Birds,” made a rare appearance in Los Angeles alongside her family, capturing the attention of onlookers at 96 years old.

She was seen outside the residence of her daughter, Melanie Griffith, where she was supported by other guests as she walked.

Upon her arrival, Hedren sported an embroidered black jacket layered over a purple top. However, by the end of the evening, she had switched to a stylish patterned sweater.

The family gathering was in honor of Hedren’s 96th birthday, which she celebrated on January 19.

In 2024, reports from the Daily Mail revealed that Hedren was facing dementia, a condition discovered by Spanish journalist Gustavo Egusquiza after he sought to interview the esteemed actress.

Hedren’s team told Egusquiza that the actress was no longer able to be interviewed because she had dementia, and was unable to remember her career at all.

Hedren’s rep didn’t immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

In January 2025, Griffith shared a birthday post for her mother on Instagram, and said she was “healthy.”

“My beautiful Mama turned 95 yesterday! 🥰♥️🥰♥️🥰.” she wrote alongside footage of Hedren blowing out the candles on her birthday cake and waving at the camera.

“She’s happy, healthy and feisty!!” Griffith added.

Hedren, who was also a former fashion model. was discovered by Alfred Hitchcock while appearing on a television commercial and earned critical acclaim in his movies “The Birds” (1963) and “Marnie” (1964).

She won a Golden Globe for New Star of the Year for her performance in “The Birds” in 1964.

In Hedren’s 2016 memoir, “Tippi,” she accused Hitchcock of sexually assaulting her.

Hedren wrote that the director would have his driver cruise past her home, that he had her handwriting analyzed, and that he asked her to “touch him.” She also alleged that he once threw himself on top of her and tried to kiss her in the back of his limo.

In 2021, her granddaughter Dakota Johnson blasted Hitchcock, accusing him of “ruining” her career.

“She’s always been really honest and firm about standing up for yourself. That’s what she did,” Johnson said of her grandmother during her appearance on the Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast.

“Hitchcock ruined her career because she didn’t want to sleep with him, and he terrorized her,” she continued. “He was never held accountable.”
