Renowned comedian and actor Alex Duong has sadly passed away at the age of 42 after a valiant fight against cancer. Best known for his role on the television series Blue Bloods, Duong died early Saturday morning, March 28, at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica. According to a family friend, Hilarie Steele, he succumbed to complications from septic shock, as reported by TMZ.

In 2025, Alex was diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, after suffering from intense headaches centered behind his eye. Despite undergoing intensive treatment to combat the illness, the cancer continued to advance relentlessly.

Hilarie Steele had previously launched a GoFundMe campaign to aid Alex in his quest to regain the vision he lost during his illness. In light of his recent passing, the campaign now seeks to raise funds to support his widow, Cristina, and their young daughter, Everest, who is just five years old.

The campaign page expresses heartfelt thanks, stating, “We are overwhelmed with gratitude—because of your generosity, we have already surpassed our initial goal. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

It continues, “With Alex’s passing, the financial demands on Christina have significantly increased. We now face unanticipated needs, including expenses for Alex’s memorial service, Everest’s educational requirements, ongoing care, daily support, and future provisions for the family. Therefore, we must continue to seek contributions beyond our original target.”

“If you’ve already given, thank you – truly. If you’re able to share or contribute again, it would mean everything right now.

“Please keep Alex and his family in your prayers. Your support is carrying them through the hardest time of their lives. We will update you with respect to details of his Celebration of Life.”

The page has currently raised $103,810 of a $95,000 target. Alex previously worked on the Los Angeles comedy circuit, where he was renowned not only as a performer, but for manning the door at the world-famous Comedy Store on Sunset Strip.

Alex was the youngest of six children, born to Vietnamese and Chinese parents. He grew up in Dallas, Texas, before relocating to Los Angeles to chase his dreams in the entertainment industry.

Throughout his career he turned his talents to stand-up comedy, acting, and writing, appearing on productions including Netflix’s Historical Roast, CBS’s Blue Bloods, and The OnlyFans Roast of Whitney Cummings. He had been a member of SAG-AFTRA since 2009.
