During this episode, fellow cast members Dorit Kemsley and Kyle Richards speculated that Sutton and Garcelle shared more of an alliance than a genuine friendship. Erika Jayne stepped in to defend their bond, even as Garcelle expressed a desire for Erika’s departure from the show. Sutton, however, maintained that she never perceived their friendship as anything but genuine, shedding light on when they last communicated and their conversation after the reunion taping several months prior.
“We had a really great friendship,” Sutton shared during the December 4 episode of the RHOBH: After Show. “She was one of my best friends in Los Angeles, and it really had not even occurred to me that this was a fake friendship. It wasn’t on my radar at all. I think that maybe for one of us it was on the radar, but for me, definitely not on the radar.”
Sutton revealed that she reached out to Garcelle frequently in the weeks following the season 14 reunion, indicating her efforts to maintain their connection amid the tensions.
According to Sutton, she texted Garcelle quite a bit in the weeks that followed the season 14 reunion.
“I did speak to her on the phone, and then we actually were going to have dinner with [Jennifer Tilly], and when I texted her that, she said, ‘I’m not available.’ That was the last interaction that I had with her. It was on April 1,” she revealed. “So after that, I texted her a few times … I’ve tried and tried and tried and to hear some of the things that she said that she did more in the friendship than I did, we both know that’s not true. That’s insulting to me. It’s insulting to our friendship.”
While Sutton acknowledged that a lot of people think she did “something wrong,” she insisted, “I didn’t.”
“I spoke to her two weeks after the reunion. She didn’t say anything, like, ’Sutton, I wish you had done this,’” she noted.
Elsewhere, Dorit said she “always” suspected Sutton and Garcelle’s relationship wasn’t authentic.
“I think Garcelle and Sutton were both new. They had felt like there was the Fox Force Five, which essentially was girls that had history. And they felt like the new kids on the block,” she reasoned. “[And] Garcelle really made it a point to say all the time, like, ‘You didn’t have my back.’ She really expected a blind loyalty, and she gave a blind loyalty. No matter what Sutton did, that girl, she literally defended her at all costs.”
Agreeing with Dorit’s sentiments, Kyle said that she felt Sutton and Garcelle’s friendship was “very much an alliance.”
“They really tried to pull it off like it was so genuine, and we kept thinking, ‘I don’t know.’ And Garcelle unfollowing her and never speaking to her again pretty much confirmed what we said all along,” she confirmed.
But Jennifer, 67, insisted Sutton and Garcelle had a “very real friendship.”
“Even me, before I was on the show, Sutton would say, ‘Oh, I’m coming by, and I’m with Garcelle, and we’re going to join you guys for dinner. Sutton threw a baby shower for Garcelle’s son,” she noted.
As for the future, Dorit said she didn’t believe that Garcelle would be open to making amends “unless, of course, she was returning” to the show.
“I don’t think there’s any repair for them, at least not now,” Erika agreed.
Still, she said that despite the forming of alliances on the show, “I do think it was a real relationship. To what depth, I can’t say.”
Meanwhile, Bozoma Saint John, 48, said she found “the whole thing a little odd.”
“I also don’t understand what happened with Garcelle anyway,” she added.
Then, after Dorit said that Garcelle did not like Sutton at first and clicked more with Erika, Boz mentioned that Garcelle now wants Erika fired.
“Why me? What did I do?” Erika wondered as Jennifer recalled Erika saying she wished Garcelle was “more interesting” at last season’s reunion.
“That’s like really a cutting thing to say,” Jennifer shared.
