The ongoing saga between former “Real Housewives of Potomac” stars Candiace Dillard-Bassett and Monique Samuels continues to captivate fans, as Candiace has recently addressed claims made by Monique regarding past apologies. The drama unfolded after Monique, now appearing as a friend of the show, asserted that she had previously apologized to Candiace for their infamous physical altercation during the show’s fifth season.

For those familiar with the dynamics of “RHOP,” Candiace and Monique were once close allies in the early days of the series. However, their friendship took a dramatic turn, culminating in a highly publicized physical confrontation that left their relationship in tatters. Since then, the pair have remained estranged, making Monique’s return to the series a hot topic for fans and followers of the show’s intricate social web.
In response to Monique’s claims of having apologized, Candiace took to her “Undomesticated” podcast to set the record straight. During a discussion initiated by her co-host about Monique’s comments, Candiace reacted with surprise and skepticism. “She has?!” she exclaimed, accompanying her words with a series of eye rolls and expressive facial gestures that clearly conveyed her disbelief regarding Monique’s assertion.
After hearing Monique’s comments about having apologized, Candiace issued a response via her Undomesticated podcast. In the clip, her cohost brought up that Monque had said this.
“She has?!” Candiace responded. She then rolled her eyes and made several facial expressions to show that she didn’t think this was the case.
The former RHOP star then said, “I have PTSD from the entire experience, so it’s possible I could be misremembering, but I do not recall ever receiving an apology from that girl.” She went on to say that she’s seen “a lot of clips” of Monique blaming “much of her behavior” on “how she was unhealed.”
She continued, “It all reeks to me of like skirting around real accountability. Mostly because, like you [her cohost] said, if you wanted to apologize to me, you would have and could have called me directly. Candiace also called out the practice of waiting to hash things out on camera, calling it “a crock of sh**.”
The RHOP alum wasn’t done. She added, “When you inflict real-life pain on people and real-life trauma on people, you need to offer a real-life apology that does not need to involve cameras.” Additionally, she doesn’t take Monique’s recent comments in interviews as remorse.

Candiace admits the situation gives her PTSD, but doesn’t recall an apology and says “that girl” (Monique) is only relevant when it comes time to talk about Candiace! In usual Candiace fashion, she concluded with a bit of shade, saying, “I also think it’s cute because I don’t really see her out in the public eye much, speaking, unless she is talking about me. So, what does that say about your relevance?”
Monique has also talked about more subjects relating to Candiace recently. She was on a live recently and was asked if she could coexist with Candiace if she returned to RHOP. She said, “Of course, I can coexist with anybody. Now, do I have to be friends with everybody? Absolutely not.”
Someone on the live referenced how Monique previously talked about why she could make up with Gizelle Bryant but not Candiace, and they stated that she made it sound like they never had a friendship.
She responded, “Well, we didn’t. I didn’t misspeak. Exactly what I said is what I meant.” Monique then explained that a friendship requires two equal people. The friend of the show went on, “It’s just called being a grown-up,” regarding coexisting with people she’s not necessarily friends with.
Someone else on the live expressed how they want her to return for season 11 as a full-time housewife. According to Monique, “I actually like being a friend. This is kind of like my preference right now because I kind of get to do what I wanna do.”
The post from The Shade Room also includes her comments from various interviews, where she was asked about Candiance and essentially said she had no interest in rekindling and that there “was no relationship.”
The clips also feature her revealing why she was open to getting on better terms with Gizelle but not Candiace. She told an interviewer, “Well, Gizelle and I never really had an off-camera relationship. We didn’t have a friendship that we were trying to develop off camera, so it’s a little bit difficult when you’re nurturing off-camera friendships and then when you get on camera, and that person completely flips things and projects what they’re doing onto you.”
She added that she doesn’t like “the doubleface.” In terms of whether or not Monique apologized, according to PEOPLE, she did in 2020 during the RHOP reunion.
She told Candiace, “I take full responsibility for my part and my actions in the altercation — that fight wasn’t about you. Nothing that you said or did in that moment warranted the response that you received. I offer you my apology, and I’m sorry for the pain that you are still going through and the fact that you still haven’t healed from it, and I hope that you are able to heal and move forward.”
