The women of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City have given fans iconic fashion moments in Season 5. There was Mary Cosby wearing a graffiti print Dolce & Gabbana trench coat, Angie Katsanevas’ Greek ensemble, and newbie Bronwyn Newport’s fox fur heart shaped cape by Saint Laurent that she and Rihanna both own.

However, cast member Whitney Rose had to close out the season with one more daring look. It wasn’t a fashion moment, but it was a shocking hair change. Whitney, who is known for her blonde hair looks, appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in January rocking a bright ginger chin-length bob.

The reality TV stars dramatic hair change didn’t come without a very sweet meaning.

Season 5 of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is nearing its end, but Whitney Rose is ringing in the New Year with a fresh new look. The reality star joined Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live on January 8, and shocked fans with a brand-new do.

The jewelry designer ditched her blonde locks for a shorter, red chin-length hairstyle that looked stunning on her. Whitney made the reveal while on the WWHL blue carpet. In an Instagram video, Whitney is seen doing a before and after reveal. In the before, she was makeup free and wearing pajamas. Afterwards, Whitney is done up in a dazzling silver dress, while rocking her new red bob.

“Redhead reveal! #RHOSLC star @whitneywildrose is HERE! #WWHL,” the caption for the video read.

On the show, host Andy Cohen asks Whitney about her hair color change. “And you’re doing this because…?”

Whitney revealed that she didn’t change her hair for fun, but was doing it for her daughter, Bobbi Rose, who was getting bullied for her hair color.

“To support my daughter, who’s a redhead. And all the redhead teenagers out there who get bullied daily. I’m proving a point that when I say, ‘Redheads are beautiful,’ I mean it,” she explained.

It’s sad that Whitney’s daughter is dealing with bullies all because of her hair color. The Real Housewife dedicated an Instagram post to her teenage daughter after she made her reveal on WWHL. In her post, she went into more detail about being excited to welcome a child with “stunning red hair and porcelain skin.”

Whitney’s post consisted of photos of her WWHL appearance and, lastly, a photo of a young Bobbi with gorgeous long, red locks.

“For Bobbie Rose 🌹 My heart, my love, my soul. My love for you will never be broken. You are the most beautiful human I have ever seen. Your beauty is bountiful, kindness sincere and your soul is pure light and sunshine ☀️.”

“I quilled when I first saw your stunning red hair and porcelain skin, I thought to myself, “I have a real life doll and she so perfect and all mine!” In a world of grey and mundane, you are a rare beauty and you have magical powers ✨”

She continued, “I am so proud to be your mom. I am proud to be a red head even if it came from a bottle because I know there is still magic from God’s hand in it because I created you. Don’t ever change Bobbie, don’t listen to the profanities of the world for the world is fear based. One of your powers is that you are based in love and light. You are so beautiful and I love you beyond any world or galaxy. 💋”

Whitney is extremely close to her children. In October 2024, she experienced a very scary situation when Bobbi was taken in an ambulance to the ICU after experiencing “severe asthma exacerbation.” Thankfully, Bobbi returned home after being kept in the hospital for 4 days.

Whitney and her husband, Justin Rose, are also parents to a son named Brooks. She is also a stepmom to Justin’s three children from a previous marriage.

After her stay, Whitney shared an update in an Instagram Story. Taking a smiling selfie with Bobbi, she wrote, “Bobbie is out of the ICU and recovering at home!! So grateful for all of your prayers and healing vibes. We are blessed to have such an amazing community with all of you. Хохо, Whitney & Bobbie.”

There’s Another Whitney Who May Have Copied The Real Housewife’s Look

Interestingly, there is another reality TV star living in Utah that is known for her shorter hair. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which has become a hit with TV viewers, introduced fans to Whitney Leavitt, who was the only cast member to rock short, blonde hair. Throughout Season 1, the ladies have been known for their long, wavy locks.

However, Whitney R. wanted to set the record straight that she was the first Utah reality star to rock a bob and may have inspired Whitney L. to get the bold chop. Speaking to People, the RHOSLC star said:

“If you think back to season one, I had my natural hair in a bob. I’ve always rocked a blonde bob, so I argue that Whitney stole my look.”

Whether Whitney L. copied her hair look or not, both women have been made out to be villains of their friend group at some point. Does their shorter hair have anything to do with it?

“I think it’s only because we want to stand out. We don’t want to be like everyone else. If that makes me a villain, then I guess I’m a villain,” Whitney R. told People. “I don’t want to look like every other woman around me. I want to be me.”

“I’ll take it,” Whitney R. said about the title of villain. “I don’t know what it is about the bob. I’ve always had a bob. I wore extensions for a little bit and just didn’t feel like myself.”

In a TikTok, Whitney L. is seen getting her hair cut at cast member Jessi Ngatikaura’s Utah-based hair salon. Towards the end of Season 1 of SLOMW, she too, is also made out to be the villain among the women, as she had distanced herself from the MomTok group.

Like Whitney R., the reality star is also not a fan of extension and always wanted to have shorter hair. Speaking to The Cut, Whitney L. stated that extensions are “just not for me.” She added, “I don’t know how people sleep on them or wash their hair.”

When asked about her portrayal as a villain on the show, she admitted, “I mean, yeah, I didn’t love what I watched of myself either. So much was going on in my personal life. So when the show came out, I thought it was so funny that I had been labeled as this villain, so I was poking fun at it. But I don’t think I’m the villain.”
