Robert Irwin has made quite the splash on this season of Dancing With The Stars. The wilderness expert came into the reality TV dance competition with big shoes to fill, as his older sister Bindi won the show ten years ago when she herself competed in Season 21 with partner Derek Hough.
So far on Season 34, Robert and his partner, dance pro Witney Carson, have done quite well, steadily remaining at the top of the pack week after week. After a recent performance where Robert dared to show a little more skin, however, he found himself with an unexpected job offer afterward.
Robert Says He Received An Offer From Thunder Down Under
Last week, Robert and Witney took the stage for the show’s Disney week, where they performed a fast-paced cha-cha to a Shakira song. Robert surprised the crowd when, at one moment, he threw open his shirt, revealing his chest and chiseled abs, earning some cheers from the audience.
Later on, Robert revealed that his saucy dance had garnered the attention of Thunder Down Under, a male stripper group. Apparently, the Australian offshoot of the dance group offered Robert a place on their stage. If he accepted, he wouldn’t be the first DWTS celebrity to try his hand at it—instead, he’d be joining the ranks of Tyson Beckford, Vinny Guadagnino, Nyle DiMarco, and Joey Lawrence in doing so.
That said, Robert told Yahoo News that while he was flattered, the gig wasn’t for him:
More power to ’em, just not for me. Not right now. I’ll take the shirt off every now and again…
“Anything to push the conservation message,” he added jokingly.
Robert Remains The Season’s Heartthrob
Though Robert won’t have stripping in his future, he still remains the center of attention for many this season. His partner Witney previously spoke about how many DMs she received about him from young women asking whether he were single. At one point, she explained she was so overloaded with messages from strangers that she had to kindly ask them to stop:
Girls, I love ya. Thank you for the applications, through my email and flooding the DMs. If I could line you all up with Robert, I would because you’re all 10/10 perfect cuties. We are currently dancing our lives away, so we are unable to respond. Robert for The Bachelor?! Idk, this is too stressful for me to handle lol!
For now, it seems like Robert and Witney still have a very strong stance in the competition. Robert has been vocal about how he came into the season without any professional dance training, so he imagined the show would be an uphill battle for him. On social media, he’s spoken out about how exhausting and physically demanding the rehearsals could be, giving fans a glimpse into the less glamorous side of the competition.
In general, the duo is doing quite well, consistently landing at or near the top of the leaderboard. Most recently, their cha‑cha earned a score of 22 out of 30, placing them fourth for the night, and thankfully they were safe from the week’s elimination.
