Cher has once again ignited excitement for “Saturday Night Live.”
The legendary performer, now 79, made a grand return to Studio 8H as the musical guest, marking her first appearance in nearly four decades. She donned a chic leather jacket paired with Chrome Hearts x Deadly Dolls sweatpants, valued at $6,400, to deliver performances of “DJ Play A Christmas Song” and “Run Rudolph Run” from her 2023 release, “Christmas.”
In a memorable collaboration, she supported Ariana Grande, who was the host for the episode, and joined Bowen Yang for the entertaining “Delta Lounge” skit.
Fitting the festive theme of the episode, the music icon swapped her outfit for a dazzling silver corset top with a black shrug and matching black pants. This change was a prelude to her enchanting rendition of the Eagles’ “Please Come Home for Christmas,” which thrilled viewers both in the studio and at home.
Aside from a brief appearance on “Weekend Update” in 1992 and a spot during the show’s 50th-anniversary concert last year, Cher’s last full performance on the iconic sketch show was back in November 1987.
Despite decades in showbiz, Cher’s unique taste in fashion has remained a key element of her persona since she burst onto the scene in 1965 with the hit single, “I Got You Babe.”
While her penchant for wearing slinky gowns in the ’70s, bedazzled bodysuits in the ’80s and over-the-top showgirl-inspired headdresses in the ’90s is well-documented, contemporary pop stars are proving Cher’s collection of diva-worthy, Bob Mackie-designed pieces still hits.
Just this fall, singer Sabrina Carpenter busted out not one, but two vintage Bob Mackie dresses from the archives for two major music events: the 2025 VMAs and her debut at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. Cher originally wore the pink, black, and blue fringed gown for a performance with Tina Turner on the “Cher” TV show in 1975.
Which is all to say, Cher’s still got it, babe.
