Roman Kemp has openly shared a personal anecdote, shedding light on a moment which left his mother deeply troubled and offering insight into the family life of his famous clan.

Best known for his segments on The One Show and being the son of Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp and pop sensation Shirlie Kemp, Roman spoke about feeling somewhat estranged within his music-oriented family.

Speaking to the Guardian, Roman revealed his struggles with belonging, admitting, “I really upset my mum recently because I said that sometimes I feel like I don’t fit in with our family.”

He described family scenes in which he felt out of place: “I go back home, and my dad will be on the piano, my sister will be singing, my mum’s taking videos and pictures. And I just want to be on my own. I’m not embarrassed by it, but that form of extroversion is not really me.”

In November last year, Roman, who has consistently been candid regarding his mental health battles, revealed to his fans on Instagram his decision to stop using antidepressants, which had been part of his life since he was 15 years old.

After grappling with depression for many years and occasionally facing suicidal thoughts—an admission he made during an appearance on the show “Steph’s Packed Lunch”—Roman has been open about his mental health struggles.

In the past, he relied on a prescription medication called sertraline, which is commonly used to treat depression and anxiety.

In a recent discussion about the use of antidepressants, he took to Instagram to share his thoughts more openly with his followers. He emphasised that his stance on antidepressants isn’t about promoting or condemning their use but rather about prioritising individual needs.

He stated, “I’m neither for nor against taking anti-depressants; what matters most is finding what is right for YOU, and if taking medication helps you, then I fully support it.”

In a surprising development, Roman has announced that he will not be returning as the host of the 2025 BRIT Awards. This decision comes despite his earlier excitement about taking on the role, which he had previously described as a “dream come true.”

An insider shared insights with the Daily Mail, revealing that Roman has come to terms with the changes that occur in the entertainment industry.

The insider noted that Roman is “flattered” to have had the opportunity to host last year’s ceremony, highlighting his appreciation for the experience.

Furthermore, the source emphasised that Roman, known for his professionalism and dedication, understands the ever-changing landscape of show business and is open to new opportunities that may arise in the future.
