ITV viewers have been shocked to discover Sam Thompson’s real name following his I’m A Celebrity victory. The 31-year-old was born Samuel Robert De Courcy Thompson in August, 1992.

Whilst many were not shocked at Sam being crowned King of the Jungle, some have been left stunned after uncovering his rather unusual real name. The Made in Chelsea star beat out the likes of Tony Bellew and Nigel Farage to claim first place in the gruelling competition.

One journalist commented on X, the social media platform formally known as Twitter, about the moniker. They revealed: “Sam Thompson – aka ‘Samuel Robert De Courcy Thompson’, yes really! – crowned King of the Jungle in front of 7.5m viewers.” (sic)

Many I’m A Celebrity fans were quick to react to the surprising name, with one viewer sarcastically commenting: “Shocked that a posh guy from Made in Chelsea has more than one middle name.” (sic)

Another quipped: “Sam Thompson from Made in Chelsea, a show about posh people, has a posh name? shocker.” Whilst a third typed: “Great to see all the anti-Tory types celebrating the privately educated Samuel Robert De Courcy Thompson winning.” (sic)

After weeks of brutal trials and challenges, Sam fought off ex-politician Nigel and heavyweight boxer Tony to be crowned King of the Jungle on Sunday evening.

It was a tight race to the finish line between Sam and Tony, with champion Sam bagging 56.6 per cent of the overall votes and with Tony receiving 41 per cent. Nigel Farage came in third place and lagged behind during the top three vote-off, only scoring 25.7 per cent of the total votes.

Since Sam’s victory, it has also been revealed that the 2023 final for I’m A Celebrity saw a huge slump in viewing figures. Only an average of 6.7 million tuned in, whereas an average of 10.1 million watched Jill Scott win last year.

When contacted by Express.co.uk, ITV said: “I’m A Celebrity is the biggest entertainment show on any channel this year having launched with just under 11 million viewers (10.9m). The series is currently averaging 9 million viewers.”

However, the show did have strong viewing figures to start, with 10.9 million fans watching the first episode. Sadly the show was then was plagued with early exits, with food critic Grace Dent and American singer Jamie-Lynn Spears both leaving prematurely due to medical grounds.

Sam originally shot to fame on the E4 reality show Made in Chelsea before starting a podcast with TOWIE legend Pete Wicks. Recently, Sam’s girlfriend Zara McDermott appeared on the latest series of Strictly Come Dancing.
