Scarlett Johansson felt a wave of panic and made a swift exit during her initial date with Colin Jost, who would later become her husband.
While co-hosting the “Today” show alongside Jenna Bush Hager, the “Black Widow” star reminisced about the delightful outing she shared with Jost back in 2017.
“No one had ever asked me out in that way before,” Johansson noted, adding that she was used to being in long-term relationships and had never experienced the classic, “Would you like to have dinner sometime?” scenario.
During their first date, the “Saturday Night Live” comedian took Johansson to an Italian eatery located in the East Village.
“We enjoyed a meal together, and afterwards, he suggested, ‘I’m meeting some friends, let’s go for a drink.’ I was unfamiliar with dating, so I simply thought, ‘I need to leave.’ I just had to go,” Johansson recounted.
She wrapped up the date in about an hour and a half before making her swift exit.
“I got home to relieve my babysitter, and she was like, ‘Why are you home?’ and I was like, ‘I don’t know!’ I just felt so flustered,” she explained.
ScarJo, 41, said that her premature departure totally spooked the comedian, 43.
“Later, he was like, ‘I totally thought that was it. You were acting so weird.’ I panicked. I don’t know,” the “Jurassic World Rebirth” star laughed.
In his 2020 memoir, “A Very Punchable Face,” the “Weekend Update” co-anchor recalled his first impression of Johansson after meeting on the set of “SNL” in 2006.
“She was “beautiful, smart, sweet and intimidatingly sophisticated.
“She claims that she remembers thinking I was ‘cute’ but I know what I looked like and that’s not the word I would have used. (‘Shaggy’ would have been more generous. ‘Slovenly’ would have been more accurate,)” he wrote.
The couple got engaged after dating for two years and tied the knot in October 2020.
They share a 4-year-old son named Cosmo, and Johansson also co-parents her daughter Rose, 11, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac.
