Sean “Diddy” Combs now knows when he will be stepping out of prison, as his release date has been officially announced.

Information from the Bureau of Prisons confirms that the music mogul, who is currently 55 years old, is slated to be released on May 8, 2028. At present, Diddy is incarcerated at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), but there remains a possibility that he could be relocated to a different facility to complete the remainder of his sentence.

His time behind bars began in September 2024 following his arrest on charges related to transporting individuals for prostitution, sex trafficking, and racketeering conspiracy. Throughout this legal ordeal, Diddy has consistently maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to all allegations.

After a jury trial on July 2, 2025, Diddy was found guilty of two counts of transportation while being acquitted on other charges. Subsequently, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced him to 50 months in prison, which equates to just over four years. The time Diddy has already spent at MDC will be deducted from his total sentence. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a $500,000 fine and will face five years of supervised release once his prison term concludes.

Before his sentencing on October 3, Diddy’s legal team sought a more lenient punishment. They proposed a 14-month sentence followed by supervised release that would include mandatory drug treatment, individual therapy, and group therapy sessions. The attorneys contended that the 13 months Diddy had already endured at MDC, under harsh conditions, constituted sufficient punishment. They highlighted the difficult circumstances, which involved constant suicide watch checks, limited access to clean water, and inadequate food quality.

Earlier this month, Diddy’s attorney Alexandra Shapiro filed a notice of appeal, signaling that the legal team plans to challenge both the conviction and the sentence. While the appeal notice did not detail the grounds, his lawyers have previously argued that the statute under which Diddy was charged, the Mann Act, should not apply in this case.

Adding to the drama, Diddy’s longtime friend Charlucci Finney claimed the music mogul experienced a terrifying incident while incarcerated. “He woke up with a knife to his throat,” Finney told the Daily Mail on October 22. “I don’t know whether he fought him off or the guards came, I just know that it happened.” Finney suggested the attack may have been intended to intimidate Diddy rather than harm him, noting, “If this guy had wanted to harm him, Sean would have been harmed. It would only take a second to cut his throat with a weapon and kill him.”
