Just hours after addressing rumors about their competing beauty lines, Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber both made appearances at the 2025 Academy Museum Gala.

On Saturday, October 18, Gomez, 33, attended the event with her husband, Benny Blanco. This marked their first public appearance together on the red carpet since their wedding at the end of last month.

The couple, Gomez and Blanco, 37, chose coordinated Armani outfits for the occasion. Blanco opted for a sophisticated midnight blue velvet suit paired with a silk shirt of the same hue. Meanwhile, Gomez dazzled in a custom Armani Privé black gown adorned with crystals on the bodice and complemented the look with a velvet evening jacket draped over her shoulders. She added a touch of sparkle with jewelry from De Beers.

For her beauty look, Gomez went with a plum-colored lipstick and a matching manicure, complementing her classic updo of sleek, dark hair.

Addressing the ongoing chatter about their beauty brand rivalry, Selena Gomez made a brief comment regarding Hailey Bieber’s remarks. “Just leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants,” Gomez, 33, expressed in an Instagram Story that was later deleted, as reported by Just Jared and TMZ. “It doesn’t affect my life whatsoever. It’s just about relevance, not intelligence.”

Bieber, 28, walked the red carpet later that evening with her best friend Kendall Jenner. Complementing Jenner’s black frock, Bieber opted for a chocolate-colored strapless Schiaparelli dress with a sheer corset alongside earrings and rings from Tiffany & Co.

Shortly before the two women’s red carpet outing, Gomez addressed Bieber’s recent comments comparing their respective beauty brands.

“Just leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants,” Gomez wrote in a since-deleted Instagram Story message, per screenshots obtained by multiple outlets. “Doesn’t affect my life whatsoever. It’s just about relevance not intelligence. Be kind.”

Gomez added, “All brands inspire me [and] there is room for everyone, and hopefully we can all stop.”

Bieber had been asked whether she felt her beauty brand, Rhode Skin, was in direct competition with Gomez’s Rare Beauty in a Wall Street Journal profile.

“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” Bieber told the outlet in an interview published earlier this week. “When people want to see you a certain way and they’ve made up a story about you in their minds, it’s not up to you to change that.”

Fans have long speculated that Gomez and Hailey had been at odds for years given their respective relationships with Justin Bieber. Gomez dated Justin, 31, on and off from 2009 to 2018. Justin started dating Hailey after his breakup with Gomez.

“What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged,” Justin previously told GQ in March 2016. “It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard. … I just don’t want to hurt her.”

Justin and Hailey, who got married in September 2018, as well as Gomez have all shut down viral rumors that there was relationship overlap.

“It’s hard for me to talk about this because I don’t want to talk on either one of their behalf because it was their relationship,” Hailey said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2022. “I honestly respect that very deeply, but I just know what was going on when we got back together. And I know what had to happen for that to come back together in a healthy way, and I think it was the most healthy, mature decision that he could have made and I respect that.”

Hailey and Justin later welcomed their first child, son Jack Blues, in August 2024.
