For nearly a decade, viewers were captivated by the reality TV series Chrisley Knows Best, which chronicled the lives of a family that claimed to have mastered the art of financial success and familial harmony. The show’s trajectory took a dramatic turn when Todd and Julie Chrisley, the show’s charismatic parents, were embroiled in a legal scandal involving serious fraud charges.
After serving their time, Todd and Julie have made their return to the spotlight, resuming the filming of their family-focused show. However, the Chrisley family saga continues, as a new controversy arises involving another family member.
This time, it is Kyle Chrisley, Todd and Julie’s son, who finds himself in legal trouble. The incident in question occurred on December 20th, where Kyle is accused of engaging in a confrontation with a mechanic. The mechanic alleged that Kyle and his wife had deceived him, leading to this heated exchange.
Kyle Chrisley Faces Assault Charges
It’s Todd and Julie’s son, Kyle, who’s found himself in hot water. An incident took place on December 20th, where Kyle allegedly got into an altercation with a mechanic who felt he had been cheated by Kyle and his wife.
Now, he faces a long string of charges, including, according to People, domestic assault, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, assaulting a first responder, resisting arrest and retaliation for past actions. The lawsuit over the incident claims that the charges should be dropped, as he was not the aggressor in the situation:
A disgruntled mechanic, angry over a payment dispute, showed up uninvited, kicked at their doors, threatened violence, and used his car as a weapon by ramming their SUV and nearly running Kyle over in front of multiple neighbors.
When the incident occurred, it was only Kyle who was taken in by the police, not the mechanic.
Kyle Maintains His Innocence
Kyle and his wife, Ashleigh, are now taking the matter to court, as they feel strongly that they are the victims in the situation. Later language in the aforementioned lawsuit notes that the family should not be persecuted for simply trying to defend themselves:
[They] bring this lawsuit because no family should face criminal charges or threats of arrest for defending themselves at home or for exercising their constitutional rights. This is a case about false arrest, excessive force and retaliation for trying to hold police officers accountable.
Outside of the courtroom, Kyle continues to defend himself to viewers of the show. He recently took to his personal Instagram account, where he shared a photo of himself lying on the ground, being arrested by police officers. In the caption of the photo, Kyle explained his side of the story, one where the police’s decision to only arrest him made absolutely no sense.
“So let me get this straight. A man who has been threatening me for MONTHS, trying to extort money out of me, saying he will destroy me if I don’t pay, has made threats to MY CHILD, my wife, told me he will destroy my truck, COMES TO MY HOUSE putting hands on ME, trying to extort money out of me, threatening me, l’m not allowed to defend myself and my property?” he wrote.
The rest of Kyle’s caption seemed geared towards the forces who arrested him. “[Then] he leaves and you FINALLY show up and arrest me for AGGRAVATED ASSAULT because his story is that I cut him???? and then charge me with resisting arrest because I’m trying to ask you why I’m being arrested and he’s not????? And you tell my wife this is private property so you don’t know who’s at fault for her car being rammed into????? Please make it make sense Rutherford County!!!!,” he added.
