Si King has revealed that The Hairy Bikers have officially come to an end following the passing of Dave Myers. The duo, both adored for their infectious camaraderie and shared enthusiasm for culinary arts and motorcycles, became iconic figures in British television. Their joint ventures led to the creation of numerous cooking series, including “The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook” and “The Hairy Dieters,” amassing over 30 series together.

Their remarkable partnership, however, met a poignant conclusion in 2024 when Dave succumbed to cancer at the age of 66. Reflecting on their journey, Si shared with Radio Times, “It’s over. The Bikers were always a duo. Without my mate, there are no Hairy Bikers.” He continued, speaking fondly of their deep connection: “Even in his absence, he remains my best friend. That bond is unbreakable. We were like family, often clashing due to our differences, yet our admiration for each other was unwavering.”

Si expressed that no one could ever replace Dave in his life. “I don’t want to glance in my motorcycle’s rear-view mirror and see anyone else. It was always Dave. When he led, I followed, spending miles looking at him. Those memories are precious, and that’s what I hold onto.”

Now, Si is setting his sights on a new venture with Channel 4, hosting “Britain’s Favourite Railway Stations with Si King”—his first significant solo endeavor since Dave’s passing.

A devoted railway enthusiast, Si will explore the intricate workings of Britain’s railways, meeting the dedicated individuals who ensure the system operates efficiently. The show will highlight the nation’s engineering marvels and its extensive network of over 2,600 stations. Yet, no matter how far he moves forward, Si will forever cherish the past.

“You have to move forward, but the only way you can do that is by cherishing the memories,” he said.

Si’s return to screens follows repeated questions from Hairy Bikers fans, who often tell him they are eager to see his next projects – something he described as “incredibly humbling.”

Dave’s death came two years after he announced his cancer diagnosis. Paying tribute to his best friend, Si penned: “Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave’s wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home. All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

“Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can’t follow. I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.”

He concluded the emotional post: “I wish you God’s speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya.”
