Initially celebrated as the humorous highlight and adored favorite of the first season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Demi Engemann’s role takes a dramatic turn in Season 3, casting her in a more antagonistic light. Once embraced by the MomTok community, Demi now finds herself on the fringes due to a series of controversies that have put her center stage.
Despite the swirling rumors, including alleged flirtations with Vanderpump Villa star Marciano Brunette, Demi’s husband, Bret, has remained steadfast in his support. Remarkably, Bret has expressed that these challenges have only deepened his affection for Demi, reinforcing his commitment to their marriage.
In a heartfelt interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bret and Demi shared insights into their relationship’s resilience. Addressing questions about the impact of the Marciano scandal on their marriage, Bret became visibly moved. He articulated his unwavering love for Demi and emphasized his desire to stand by her through this turbulent time, affirming the strength of their bond.
Bret Says The Scandal Brought Him Closer To Demi
Bret and Demi recently sat down for a candid conversation with Entertainment Tonight. When asked about the current state of their marriage, especially coming out of the scandal with Marciano, Bret appeared to get emotional. He shared how deeply he cared for his wife, and, now more than ever, he wanted to be by her side:
I’m going to get choked up again. She’s my best friend. That’s why this is so hard for me—to watch her go through what she’s gone through. Because I see how kind she is day in and day out, how selfless she is and what a great friend she is.
“The thing that I always say is that she’s the most magical person that I’ve ever known. I’ve fallen more deeply in love with her through this process—as hard, gut-wrenching and as unfair as it has been. My level of respect and admiration has only increased watching her navigate these things the way that she has,” Bret added.
For her part, Demi agreed that their bond was more solid than ever. “To me, it’s everything. It’s the foundation of our life. It’s the number one priority. He’s been my best friend through all of it and just my rock,” she explained. “I’m so grateful. I love you. Thank you for saying that,” she added, directing the comment to her husband.
Those who have been following the season will know that Demi found herself in hot water when it was revealed that she and Marciano had shared a string of flirty texts. Demi denied that anything happened between them, and later went on to accuse Marciano of sexual assault.
As of this article’s writing, it’s even rumored that Marciano is now planning to sue Demi over the false claims, as he says nothing non-consentual even transpired between them. Season 3 of the show ended with the rest of the MomTok skeptical about whether they believed Demi’s account.
Demi And Bret Had Another Scandal
This isn’t even the first time Bret and Demi made headlines this season. After another cast member, Jessi, grew angry with Demi, she exposed one of her dirty secrets online, revealing that a joke about “fruity pebbles” actually referred to a time when Bret drank Demi’s urine in a sexual act.
After her dirty laundry was aired on social media, Demi took to her own Instagram to set the record straight for her followers. She noted that there was a connection between Jessi sharing her secrets and the drama with Marciano, claiming that Jessi had chosen to leak the secret when she did in order to “distract” from Demi’s sexual assault claims against Marciano:
What my husband and I did one-time behind closed doors, was a consensual and private experience in our marriage. I won’t let a private act between my husband and I be a distraction from a serious act that I did not consent to.
As of this article’s writing, no official legal action has taken place between Marciano and Demi. Only time will tell if anything actionable comes from Demi’s claims. For now, she’s continued to speak out on social media about the importance of believing women’s stories instead of shutting them down.
