Snoop Dogg has officially signed a new pact with NBC Universal that will continue to up his reality TV game. The rapper will be a part of a new deal with the entertainment and production studio in more ways than one.
The deal was announced this week, as broken by Variety, detailing how NBCU’s deal with the music mogul would span across TV, film, sports, and streaming. Perhaps the most exciting piece of the arrangement is that Snoop Dogg is set to return as a coach to The Voice.
Snoop Dogg Is Coming Back To The Voice
Fans of the The Voice will recall that Snoop was a coach most recently on Season 26 of the franchise. Viewers came to love him for his combination of industry wisdom and playful spirit, making them laugh with his witty guidance. Thanks to the new deal with NBCU, Snoop has been confirmed to be returning as a coach on the show for Season 28, no doubt bringing his same signature vibe with him.
So far, Snoop is the only coach who’s been officially confirmed as returning for Season 28. When he left the show at the end of Season 26, fans may have suspected it wasn’t the last they’d see of him on the show. As recalled by TV Insider, during the Season 26 finale, Snoop told host Carson Daly that he didn’t feel it was the end of his journey with the franchise:
Man, this has been a great experience for me. I didn’t know what I was signing on to, but I do know it feels like I could come back and do it again.
Snoop Will Expand Into Other Forms Of Entertainment
The new juicy deal with NBC allows Snoop to explore other entertainment mediums as well. His production company, Death Row Pictures, is also set to spearhead new feature projects, one of which will be a movie based on his own life. A spokesperson from his company explained how the deal signified a new era for Snoop’s art. “This strategic evolution cements the brand’s influence beyond music, ushering in a new era of innovative onscreen storytelling,” they said.
For his part, Snoop seems to be very excited about this next chapter of his involvement in the entertainment world. After the deal was officially announced, he released a statement expressing his gratitude to NBC for seeing his creative vision:
Not everyone has the courage and vision to see what Death Row Pictures can bring to the table, but Donna and the NBCUniversal team have always understood, which is why I am proud to call NBCUniversal my new home. The Dogg has officially moved into the neighborhood, ya dig?
It’s no surprise that Snoop is being courted for more on-screen appearances. Fans of the artist will certainly recall how entertaining he was during his time hosting the 2024 Olympic Games while in Paris. While in France, Snoop functioned as a special correspondent for NBC, and he even took part in the torch relay during the opening ceremonies. Throughout the rest of the Olympics, he could often be seen on the sidelines, cheering on American athletes across various sports.
There’s no doubt that Snoop is very quickly becoming an American entertainment cultural icon. The rapper already boasts a whopping 21 studio albums over the course of his career. On top of that, he’s sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and has been the recipient of 20 Grammy Award nominations. Anyone lucky enough to have Snoop as their coach on The Voice would be most fortunate indeed.
While there is no official air date for The Voice Season 28 just yet, it will likely start sometime in the fall. (In the past, seasons have usually started in September.) Until then, fans can keep up with the end of Season 27, which airs Mondays 8/7c and Tuesdays 9/8c on NBC.
