The Real Housewives of New York City alum Sonja Morgan hasn’t had the best couple of weeks. Recently, the former reality TV star was seen being carried away from a Florida restaurant in an ambulance, causing shock among many of her fans. Now, she’s speaking out and describing what happened.

This isn’t the first troubling situation Sonja, 61, has been in recently. She made headlines earlier this month when she tried to skip out on a $1,000 restaurant bill. It’s important to note that reports say she has now paid it and gave a generous tip, but the event still sparked concerns about both her financial and overall well-being. This comes after she sold her townhome in May 2024 for just under $5 million. 

Sonja provided a statement to PEOPLE following being carried out of a restaurant called Echo on a stretcher. She said to the outlet, “An elderly patron at the restaurant I was dining at appeared to be in distress, and I called for medical assistance.”

The statement continued, “While assisting during the commotion, I sustained some minor injuries and, out of an abundance of caution, accompanied the EMTs to be checked out. I’m incredibly grateful to the first responders for their swift care and professionalism.” She went on, “I didn’t want to leave. I insisted on making sure she was cared for.”

Captain William Rothrock from the Palm Beach Police Department confirmed to the outlet that they responded to a call for medical attention at 9:45 p.m. that night. However, he also said they “issued a written trespass warning to Sonja Morgan at the request of the Breakers Hotel (owner of Echo).” There was no mention of another patron with Sonja. It has been reported that the former RHONY star refused to sign the warning. 

Regarding the incident, TMZ reported that Sonja could be heard saying, “It’s another setup … this is another setup” as she was leaving the restaurant. The troubled star also said, “I just had a restaurant in New York do that to me. They invited me and then they outed me saying I didn’t pay. It’s not true. I paid and I tipped.”

Unfortunately, there has been grave concern for Sonja for years now. Not only have her former co-stars described her as living in her own world, but there have also been reports about her drinking to extreme levels. Some unconfirmed reports also say that her excessive drinking was the reason for her Welcome to Crappie Lake show with Luann de Lesseps being canceled. 

Hopefully, these are all just misunderstandings, and Sonja is doing fine.
