Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are candidly discussing the harsh reality they face a year after losing their home in the destructive 2025 wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles.

In a recent interview with Gold Derby, released on Wednesday, February 25, Montag, now 39, shared that she and Pratt, 42, are still without a stable home. The couple, who are parents to two sons, Gunner, 7, and Ryker, 3, admit that the disaster has profoundly altered their lives.

“Sadly, we don’t have the funds to rebuild. We struggled to even meet the mortgage on that house,” Montag shared with the publication. “We invested our entire careers just to afford the down payment. So, we’re in the difficult position of not planning to rebuild and feeling uncertain about our next steps. Right now, we’re essentially homeless,” she added.

Montag pointed out that many of their long-time neighbors are facing similar challenges. “A lot of people are in the same boat of being unable to rebuild,” she noted, mentioning that her young son, Ryker, is having the hardest time coping.

“He keeps asking to go home, and I have to tell him, ‘It’s gone.’ He insists, ‘I’ll push it back up. I’m strong.’ Whenever he sees animals, he thinks their homes have burned too,” the former Hills star explained. “It’s having a significant impact on him.”

She also recalled grabbing her kids’ teddy bears during the evacuation. “How do you choose?” she said.

The devastation pushed Pratt to run for mayor of Los Angeles, telling Fox News in January that the city showed “criminal negligence” over the response to the fires.

The former reality star is “convinced he’s got a real shot,” a source recently told In Touch.
