The eagerly anticipated reunion for Season 3 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives recently aired, offering the reality TV stars an opportunity to share insights and moments that didn’t make it to the Hulu episodes. This season was marked by a significant rift, primarily between the full MomTok cast and Demi Engemann, who found herself isolated due to her harsh remarks.
Fans also picked up on another noteworthy shift. While Nick Viall had previously taken on hosting duties, this time around, the role was filled by another reality TV personality, Stassi Schroeder.
As Stassi stepped onto the stage to lead the Season 3 reunion, she made a striking entrance in a vivid red dress paired with matching pumps. Taking the spotlight, she settled into a green velvet armchair positioned between two sets of couches, where the rest of the SLOMW cast and their partners were seated, poised to engage with her questions.
The SLOMW Cast Was Grateful For The Change
When Stassi took the stage to host the Season 3 reunion, she appeared in a bright red dress with matching red pumps. She took center stage, sitting on a green velvet armchair in between two sets of couches, where the rest of the SLOMW cast and their partners perched, ready to answer Stassi’s questions.
This isn’t Stassi’s first time taking on this kind of role—earlier this year, she was also in charge of hosting the Vanderpump Villa reunion, which she did paired up with Lisa Vanderpump.
The ladies of MomTok appeared to be happy that Nick had been swapped out for Stassi. It seems that many of them felt Stassi would be less judgmental of them when posing her questions.
One cast member, Jen Affleck, made a quip about this:
I am so glad it is you because I know you are totally unbiased.
Stassi was appreciative of this acknowledgment. “Thank you. Well, I have been in your shoes,” she replied.
The SLOMW Cast Thought Nick Was Too Judgmental
The relief about Stassi joining the reunion points to some issues that the cast members had with Nick hosting the reunion in the past. Those who tuned in for the Season 2 reunion will recall that Nick, in particular, appeared to go after Whitney with his questions.
At the time, he seemed to put her in the hot seat, even when Whitney pointed out that some of his remarks were hypocritical. There was one moment, for instance, when Nick asked Whitney if she thought she was better than her fellow cast member Taylor Frankie Paul at “taking accountability.”
When Whitney tried to downplay it, saying she wasn’t the one to make that judgment, Nick continued to push her, saying, “I’m not asking you to judge it. I’m asking you what you think.” When Nick still wasn’t satisfied with her answer, Whitney attempted to call him out:
It’s so double standard. You just sat here and asked me, ‘Do you feel like you justify your actions based off of your feelings?’” Whitney told Nick. “Well, [Mikayla] is someone who constantly belittles me and hurts me. So, is she justified in her feelings to treat me that way?
While Nick later tried to defend his stance as an aggressive reunion host, it seems like those behind the show decided it was time for a different approach with Season 3. “I was a bit surprised when Whitney did not like my line of questioning. When it comes to the past two seasons, I think the perceived lack of accountability of Whitney is something that I wanted to have a chance to address with her,” Nick explained at the time.
While it’s unclear whether it was Nick’s decision not to host the Season 3 reunion, he did share that he had a scheduling conflict in the form of a new dating show on Netflix that he’s been tapped to host called Age of Attraction. Nick will apparently be co-hosting the new series with his wife, Natalie Joy, an opportunity which he said was too good to pass up.
“I’m sad [to miss the SLOMW reunion] because I love those women. I love that show, and it was great to be a part of it,” Nick commented.
