Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant HRVY has announced the end of his four-year relationship with Emmerdale actress Mimi Slinger. The singer, whose full name is Harvey Leigh Cantwell, became a household name when he joined the BBC’s star-studded dance competition in 2020. Paired with professional dancer and now host Janette Manrara, HRVY achieved a commendable second-place finish, tying with fellow contestants Jamie Laing from reality TV fame and Maisie Smith of EastEnders.

HRVY recently took to TikTok to reveal his newly single status, sharing a cryptic and candid post about the “embarrassing” circumstances surrounding the breakup. In the since-deleted video, the 26-year-old appeared contemplative, offering a thumbs-up to the camera. Over the footage, he wrote, “I’m now single… I blame that Vogue article,” hinting at a trending discussion piece titled “Is Having a Boyfriend Embarrassing Now?” that has captured widespread attention online.

The Vogue article, penned by Chanté Joseph, dives into the contemporary notion of whether being in a relationship with a man is perceived as something to be discreet about. The piece explores various reasons why women may choose to keep their romantic lives private, suggesting that publicizing a relationship can sometimes feel burdensome.

Joseph shares her personal perspective, admitting she mutes friends’ social media updates once their content becomes centered around their boyfriends. The article also includes insights from individuals like one woman who never publicized her 12-year relationship. She expressed a sense of relief upon their breakup, as she doesn’t have to contend with a digital trail of their history.

Meanwhile, HRVY and Mimi were very public about the romance after initially meeting at the National Television Awards red carpet in 2021.

Their romance blossomed just months after HRVY split from Maisie, whom he’d dated after meeting on the set of Strictly Come Dancing.

A source told The Sun at the time: “HRVY and Mimi are completely loved up. Things are pretty serious between them. They both know each other’s families and their friends have met.”

The singer has previously dished on their relationship and said that it was nice that they were both in the entertainment industry, as it meant they got “to see each other all the time”.

“We get to see each other all the time,” HRVY added. “It’s a nice balance, and because we’re both in the industry, we both understand, so it’s easy.”
