Amy Dowden recently shared a poignant appeal as she updated fans on her health journey. The 35-year-old star of Strictly Come Dancing underwent a second mastectomy in late 2025 following a stage three breast cancer diagnosis in 2023. This came after she revealed in February 2024 that she was showing “no evidence of disease.”
In a heartfelt message on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, the dancer from Wales spoke openly about her aspirations for motherhood, accompanied by an emotional confession.
Amy expressed, “Both Kelly and I have experienced double mastectomies. Do we grieve for our former selves? Absolutely. I would give anything to have my old body back.”
She continued, “However, the truth remains that I’ve undergone a double mastectomy, and it saved my life. I am grateful to still be here. It’s certainly not something I consider a ‘free boob job.’”
On the topic of becoming a mother, Amy shared, “If I’m fortunate enough… it’s still uncertain… to have children, as you all know, it’s something I deeply desire. With my current hormone-driven cancer, I’m unsure if it’s even possible.”
“Has chemo destroyed everything? We still don’t know. We’re keeping our options open.
“But I will never have the option to breastfeed. And sometimes people online are ready to attack you.”
She added, “I will never judge anybody on how they are dealing with their diagnosis. Never.”
