Nicolas Cage and his son Weston Cage Coppola have been married a total of nine times combined, and a source exclusively tells In Touch that they’ve been sharing marriage tips to try and learn from past mistakes and ensure they don’t mess up this time around!

“Nic feels like he’s finally getting marriage right, he sees nothing wrong with continuing to try until it clicks and that’s what Weston is doing,” the insider says. “He’s absolutely obsessed with Jenifer and convinced she’s the best thing to ever happen to him.”

The DaVinci Code actor, 61, watched his eldest son, 34, marry his fourth wife, Jenifer Alexa Canter, in April. The pair — who announced their relationship publicly in late 2024 — wed in a romantic ceremony at The London West Hollywood in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.

Weston, the son of Nicolas and his ex Christina Fulton, has been married three times in the past. He was married to singer Nikki Williams from 2011 to 2012, then to Danielle Cage — mother of his sons Lucian, 10, and Sorin, 8 — from 2013 to 2016. His most recent marriage was to Hila Cage Coppola, with whom he shares 4-year-old twin daughters, Venice and Cyress; the couple was together from 2018 until their 2024 divorce.

The source says that Jenifer — who already changed her name to Jenifer Cappola Cage — seems to “have a good influence” on Weston as “he’s stayed sober since they got together.”

“Which is a relief for everyone in his life. A lot of people are side eyeing Weston and saying this has all happened way too quickly because he hasn’t even been with Jenifer a year,” the source details. “But Nic isn’t one of the naysayers.”

Nicolas has been down the aisle his own fair share of times as he’s been married five times. According to the source, the Lord of War star is assuring his son that “marriage is the right call,” adding that he thinks his son’s new wife “is a quality girl with a good head on her shoulders.”

“Nic believes being committed to the right woman can make all the difference, he’s urging Weston to make marriage a priority,” the source concludes. “Nic thinks it’s great Weston and Jenifer are working on a film project together, he’s willing to support that any way that’s needed and is backing this marriage 100 percent.”

Nicolas has remained a steadfast source of support for his son, not only in his personal life but also publicly defending him after Weston was accused by his mother of a violent assault during a reported mental health crisis on April 28, 2024. The incident allegedly began after friends alerted Christina, 57, that Weston was experiencing a manic episode, which led to a heated argument between the two.

“When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage. Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries,” she claimed in a lawsuit filed on February 18 against Weston and Nicolas, who she claimed enabled her son. Weston pleaded not guilty and on April 2, a judge ordered him to attend a two-year mental health diversion program to resolve two felony assault charges, which will be dismissed in April 2027 if he “stays out of trouble” and follows the doctors’ demands.

A separate source told In Touch last month that despite the accusations, Nicolas continues to stand behind his son. “The damage he did to his mother is absolutely horrible, no one is denying that, but Nic isn’t going to turn his back on Weston over it,” the source explained at the time. “In his view his son was sick with a mental illness. He knows his boy and says he would never have done this otherwise.”
