Summer House S9: Carl Radke Shares Lindsay Hubbard Snubbed Bar Launch Out Of 'Embarrassment' Over Breakup
Share and Follow

Season 9 of Summer House sees exes Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke sharing the same living space in the Hamptons after a dramatic breakup that was all captured on camera and unfolded the previous season. Lindsay announced her pregnancy with her new boyfriend to her housemates and, although that made things a bit awkward for her and Carl, he participated in her gender reveal, and the two managed to stay cordial throughout the summer.

However, in the May 7th episode, Carl brought up Lindsay not being supportive of his non-alcoholic bar opening. Lindsay had not been a huge supporter of the idea when they were dating, and skipped the soft launch. After stating that she might be too “embarrassed” to attend because of their shocking on-camera split, Lindsay clapped back at him on social media after the reality TV episode aired.

After the May 7th episode, titled “Changing Tides” aired, a fan shared a clip on Instagram of the scene of Carl Radke discussing the opening of his new non-alcoholic bar, Soft Bar, with Kyle Cooke and Jesse Soloman. During the scene, Carl shared that the reason why Lindsay Hubbard did not attend the soft launch or support his business venture was because she was still “embarrassed” by the way he called off their engagement.

The fan captioned the clip, “Cannot wait for Lindsay’s response to this at the reunion.” Lindsay saw the Instagram user’s post and reposted it by saying she had no idea Carl shared this during filming the new season, which meant that she also didn’t get to respond to it at their reunion, which was already filmed. “I did not see this convo until last night and therefore I wasn’t able to address it at the reunion, but here’s what I will say …”

Lindsay then shared a very lengthy statement clapping back at Carl. In short, she claimed that she wasn’t embarrassed to attend Carl’s soft launch, but refused to drive “3 hours deep into New Jersey” where the event took place, which is not even the location of the brick-and-mortar location. “Call me when it’s actually launching,” she shared.

1). what are we in middle school? Embarrassed is not the word here. This man my best friend of eight years/fiancé/partner blindsided me and publicly humiliated me on national television with less respect than you would have for your enemy. Why on earth would I need to go to is soft launch for his bar that wasn’t even opening yet? Which brings me to #2

2). I didn’t attend said launch not because I was embarrassed, but good try. I didn’t attend because why would I go 3 hours deep into New Jersey in the middle of rush hour traffic on a summer Thursday for a bar that—at the time—didn’t even have a location locked in? And that you’re talking about opening in Brooklyn (the complete opposite direction). Call me when it’s actually launching. But I’m not going to waste 8 hours of my life to go celebrate him talking about potentially doing something at some point, maybe in the future. Call me when it’s opening

3). After watching this season back, I don’t think I’m the one throwing “jabs” at his concept… pretty sure a lot of people had a lot of opinions on this endeavor, and it wasn’t me.”

A social media back and forth ensued between Lindsay and Carl shortly after. In an Instagram comment, Carl shared that he had “regrets” over what he shared with Kyle during that episode, but admitted that in that moment it’s how he felt after Lindsay was “making jabs all summer.”

“This had nothing to do with her coming to NJ or the Soft Bar event. Zero. I was asked a question by Kyle about why she’s making jabs all summer and I responded with an opinion in the moment and I regret even saying anything about her cause here we are with the post-episode story rant and bullet points about something that hasn’t nothing to do with that conversation,” he shared.

Lindsay replied to her ex-fiancé’s comment with, “Hey Carl… If all you’re getting from me are ‘jabs,’ after the insane disrespect & gaslighting you showed me the season before, you should be thanking your lucky stars. Seems like someone is a little soft.. I owe you literally nothing. I shared a space with you all summer, we are not friends, nor will we ever be.”

Kyle Cooke Suggested Lindsay Continued To “Throw Jabs” At Carl’s Non-Alcoholic Bar Idea

In Season 9, Episode 13, the gang arrives at their shared summer house where Carl is seen talking to both Kyle and Jesse about his new business. Carl plans to open a non-alcoholic bar and café in Brooklyn, New York, called Soft Bar + Cafe. Carl, who has been sober for over four years after struggling with alcohol and substance abuse, shared that he was “passionate” about this new venture.

Carl informs both Kyle and Jesse that he was “about to sign” a $10,000 per month, seven-year lease on a warehouse which will be the location of his new business. Carl also shared that he is prepared for the worst, knowing that these sorts of businesses are always tough to maintain. If things don’t go smoothly, there is a “good guy clause” in place which would see someone else taking over the lease. He mentions that even if he “files for bankruptcy” there is still “flexibility.”

It’s then that Kyle states that there have been “naysayers” and “people taking jabs” at Carl’s non-alcoholic bar idea. One of those people is his ex, Lindsay, who never supported the idea when they were together.

“I feel like every now and then Lindsay will throw a jab,” Cooke said. “How’s it been handling that? Obviously, she’s not, like, jumping up and down for Soft Bar.”

Carl admits that Lindsay had not supported his idea because she was “embarrassed” by the way they split.

“If you really want my honest opinion, she’s still, really deep down, she’s not hurt, she’s just embarrassed.”

He continued, “And deep down there’s just a part of her with all the jabs and comments, it’s her trying to feel better about the embarrassment she’s feeling.”

The men then agreed that Lindsay may still be harboring ill-will at Carl for how he broke up with her on camera in Season 8. However, they know she has clearly moved on as she’s expecting a baby with her boyfriend.

What Happened Between Lindsay And Carl?

Lindsay and Carl got engaged in August 2022, after being friends for years and sharing their lives together on Summer House. They planned for a wedding in Mexico in November 2023, but just three months before the big day, Carl ended their engagement, and it was all captured on camera for Season 8. Lindsay admitted that she was “blindsided” by the split.

At the Season 8 reunion, Lindsay was adamant that Carl breaking up with her on camera was all scripted and that he had planned to break up with her that summer. However, host Andy Cohen shared that even the production team was not aware that Carl was going to their apartment to break the news. A few other castmates, like Kyle and Amanda Batula, agreed that there was no way Carl had devised an entire plan to split with her for the cameras.

“Watching it back, it literally looked like he had been planning it,” Lindsay shared at the reunion. “I think that there was a lot of him like, laying the ground work to villainize me.”

When the cameras were at their apartment, Carl shared with Lindsay that he couldn’t see himself marrying her. Carl told her specifically how he felt in the relationship. “I don’t think you trust me. I think you think I’m going to relapse, I think you think that I’m not capable as a human being to make money. I think you think I’m sensitive and not a man…”

During the Summer House After Show, Carl shared that if Lindsay tried to understand how he felt, he would have welcomed her with open arms. Carl believed Lindsay would have fought for the relationship instead of walking away.

“If she was like, ‘Hey, I hear ya. I see that you’re upset, and scared and worried. I don’t want to lose you I want to make this work,'” he shared while also gesturing for a big hug.
