Survivor 48 Fans Need To Stop Sleeping On Mitch Guerra
Share and Follow

When each new season of Survivor premieres, fans of Jeff Probst’s beloved reality show can’t fully know what to expect. While veteran viewers know more than new fans who are figuring out which seasons to watch first, they can’t know if there will be a medical evacuation, for example. Fans also have no idea whether to anticipate if an upcoming season will be one of the show’s best, feature great players, and/or have one of the show’s fantastic winners.

Before Survivor 48 premiered, fans didn’t know the season would have a terrible journey and a moment that should go down in the show’s history. Even now that many episodes of Survivor 48 have aired, many of the show’s fans don’t seem to have realized that they are sleeping on how great Mitch Guerra has been.

Survivor 48’s Mitch Guerra Has Proven To Be A Challenge Beast

Throughout the history of Survivor, there have been several players who’ve become known as challenge beasts. In many of those cases, it seemed like fans of the show almost instantly recognized that the player was exceptionally good at challenges.

Of course, the most obvious example of a player who was quickly recognized as a challenge beast is Ozzy Lusth. In fact, Ozzy’s ability in challenges became so widely respected by fans that he was inducted into the Survivor Hall of Fame.

Unfortunately for Mitch Guerra, there is no doubt that he hasn’t been treated by Survivor fans like he is a true challenge beast. However, while looking back at how incredible he has been, Mitch clearly deserves to be recognized as a Survivor challenge beast.

Throughout Survivor 48, Mitch has been the MVP during several challenges for more than one reason.

Survivor’s Biggest Challenge Beasts (Ranked by Individual Immunity Wins), According to Screen Rant

  • Kelly Wiglesworth, 4 wins (4 in a single season)
  • Mike Holloway, 5 wins (5 in a single season)
  • Brad Culpepper, 5 wins (5 in a single season)
  • Terry Deitz, 5 wins (5 in a single season)
  • Tom Westman, 5 Wins (5 in a single season)
  • Colby Donaldson, 5 wins (5 in a single season)
  • Spencer Bledsoe, 6 wins (3 in a single season)
  • Joe Anglim, 6 wins (4 in a single season)
  • Ozzy Lusth, 7 wins (5 in a single season)
  • “Boston” Rob Mariano, 9 wins (4 in a single season)

The most obvious reason why Mitch deserves to be called a challenge beast is how good he has proven to be at challenges.

If a challenge calls for the players to throw a ball into a basket, Mitch can do that. If a challenge calls for the players to toss something through a hoop and have it land on top of a barrel, Mitch can do that too.

Based on everything that has been shown during Survivor 48, it seems like there is very little that Mitch can’t do during the challenges. That said, the rare times when something during a challenge hasn’t come easy for Mitch, how he reacts is another reason that he is so great.

While there have been many Survivor challenge beasts who’ve been excited, some of them could definitely be accused of being glory hogs.

In February 2023, a fan on the r/survivor subreddit posted their list of the players who had the biggest egos during the game. They named Ozzy Lusth, Russell Hantz, and Joel Anderson from Survivor: Micronesia.

After all, they’ve been the kind of people who always want to put themselves into the game to make the clinch shot.

Unlike other challenge beasts, Mitch has always seemed fully comfortable to let his tribemates take the big shot too.

In fact, one of Mitch’s greatest strengths as a challenge beast is his willingness to tap someone else in. After all, many glory hound challenge beasts insist on always competing, even if they are struggling because they refuse to accept anyone else could do the thing they can’t.

Mitch Guerra Is So Likable That He Is A Huge Social Threat

For many years, Survivor fans were trained to think that it was the most shrewd players who were willing to backstab who were likely to win. However, things have changed during the “new era” of the show in a way that makes Mitch Guerra a much bigger threat during Survivor 48.

Since Survivor 41, it has been clear that being liked by the jury has been a much bigger deal in the past. After all, the “new era” of Survivor has featured many winners who were known for being very popular among their tribemates.

Those Survivor winners who built strong social bonds include Erika Casupanan, Maryanne Oketch, Mike Gabler, Yamil ‘Yam Yam’ Arocho, and Kenzie Petty. The new era’s other two winners, Rachel LaMont and Dee Valladares were also really liked by the jury on top of being more strategic.

Considering how important being popular has become for people to win Survivor, Mitch seems like he is a pretty big threat.

After all, it seems like all of Mitch’s tribemates have been delighted by him.

For proof of Mitch’s social position in the game, all anyone has to do is look at how Saiounia “Sai” Hughley reacted to him voting against her.

After previously being angry at people who voted against her, Sai notably treated Mitch very differently. After he confirmed that he voted against her, Sai told Mitch that he didn’t owe her an apology and didn’t seem upset with him at all.
